Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his challenger, Phil Angelides, seeking to reach the state's fastest-growing group of voters, have jumped into a fight over threatening letters sent to 14,000 Latinos in an Orange County congressional district here.
The GOP governor, who took to the streets of this Latino bastion over the weekend, called the actions attributed to the campaign of Republican congressional candidate Tan Nguyen a "hate crime."

The Orange County scandal reflected the Republican Party's "culture of intimidation when it comes to voting," Angelides charged.
"That's why George Bush is president today -- because they wiped people off the rolls in Florida. There were voting irregularities in Ohio,'' Angelides said, referring to disputes in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections.

This story is from 3 months ago, and got quite a bit of coverage at the time. Has something happened lately to cause a reason to revisit it?

Unfortunately nothing happened and nothing was done.
Actually, Bruce McPherson - sender of the state's letter to those 14,000 recipients of the Tan Nguyen letter - is now the *former* Secretary of State. Hopefully that had something to do with his letter, and hopefully it had something to do with one of the groups in the letter having a direct link to the Mexican government (NALEO), another having an indirect link (MALDEF), and the third funding extremists (NCLR).
Actually, this is being discussed on another thread now. The letter, according to its English translations, mentions that illegal aliens AND immigrants cannot vote, not just illegal aliens. If the former was the intended meaning of the letter, then it would constitute a hate crime. I hope that was not the meaning, though.
