"House Democrats say a just-passed minimum-wage bill will be changed to cover all U.S. territories including American Samoa "
"Spokesmen for Pelosi and Rep. George Miller, D-Martinez, the author of the minimum-wage bill, said it excluded American Samoa at the request of nonvoting Delegate Eni Faleomavaega, a Democrat who represents the Pacific island territories in the House.
Raising the federal minimum wage would devastate the local tuna industry, Faleomavaega said in a statement last week, adding that American Samoa's economy is more than 80 percent dependent on Chicken of the Sea and StarKist."

Screw 'em. Middle American teenagers need more money for PS3 games.
This helps illustrate how the min wage bill is a BAD thing.
I see the MSM was quick to cover Bella Pelosi's butt.
Prepare for an increase in the price of canned tuna.
I'm sure the environmentalists will approve, though.
Too bad. It looked like American Samoa was going to escape this madness at first.
Time to stock up on canned tuna.
It does show why we should never back down from the democrats. They're more afraid of us than the republicans.
Not only that ... They originally excluded Samoa at the request of it's Democrat representative who then presumably supported it .... then turned around to screw him once it passed.
The Democrat leadership of the House & Senate can change any and every bill to whatever they want AFTER it is passed by the rank and file.
If the bill needs to be changed, then it will be a 100-hour violation unless they can get the vote to happen in that window.
San Fran Nan singing a different tuna? ;-)
"Spokesmen for Pelosi and Rep. George Miller, D-Martinez, the author of the minimum-wage bill, said it excluded American Samoa at the request of nonvoting Delegate Eni Faleomavaega, a Democrat who represents the Pacific island territories in the House."
Yeah, right. I'm sure that Pelosi asked him to make the statement.
A federal minimum wage is a bad idea anyway you cut it. The fact that a dollar will buy more in some areas of the country than others is one huge glaring reason ther should be no national minimum wage.
The Democrats have just destroyed the economy of American Samoa. Unfortunately, the media will move on and the American public will miss out on this microcosm of socialist stupidity.
This bill needs to go thru committe. There,s to much PORK in it.
"If the bill needs to be changed, then it will be a 100-hour violation ..."
If the Senate passes some version of this and the bill goes to consolidation before going to the President, they can do just about ANYTHING they want to it with no revote necessary ... correct ?
Sort of ... the conference committee can do lots of things to the bill although I'm not sure they can introduce things that aren't in one of the two versions. However, the conference report must be accepted by both Houses of Congress. And that assumes the Members read the conference report before voting, just as we assume they read the legislation. /HystericalLaughter
At the rate things are going, canned tuna will be banned by 2012 anyway. Since eating 991 cans of tuna at one sitting contains enough mercury to kill a rat, it should be banned.
By 2018, the only things that will be served in NYC restaurants will be berries and water (8 oz limit because of that recent story about the person who died from drinking too much water). This will continue until berries and water are banned.
By 2022 we'll have all starved to death because all food and water will have been banned. Apple seeds have cyanide? Let's ban apples. 1/1000 people are allergic to nuts? Let's ban them. Salt? gone. beef? Sugar? c-ya. Mushrooms are a fungus? banned. chicken? banned. pork? offensive to Muslims; banned. Carrots and potatoes? they grow underground with dirt and all. banned.
