The " solutions" being offered in here are as bizarre and depraved as this man's act. The purpose of execution is not to demonstrate our similarity with a depraved murderer but our moral differences. The solution here is to try, then execute this man for his crimes, not engage in brutish, bizarre and depraved acts as some kind of cathartic sociopathic ritual.
No, the purpose of execution is the a) punish the offender and 2) protect society from further damage by him.
People react viscerally to this kind of horrific crime but generally speaking, I think they really just want the perps gone in the quickest, cleanest way possible.
Yep. It's clear there's a little monster inside them, too.
Reading this sad story I'd guess that the guy basically flipped-out. That doesn't make him innocent by any stretch, but I think there is a difference between someone that kills because of mental strain and one that kills just for the pleasure of it.
Both people exist and I'm not sure both should be treated the same way. I'd say this guy would be much less a threat than a Ted Bundy, or the BTK serial killer, for example.
Some people here seem to get some kind of joy fantasizing about what they could do to this man. And that makes them much more like the Ted Bundys of the world.
A refreshing breeze of sensibility in this horrible news.
Uhm, who are you to tell anyone else what the purpose of execution is or isn't? I think that executions are part deterent and part vengence.
Shhh, the juvenile posters in this thread will get their feelings hurt.
In other words, join the club. I'm regularly disgusted in the crime threads where it quickly turns into a 7th grade game of who can imagine the most brutal execution imaginable. Worse, these are so-called conservatives. Pity, none of them respect that constitutional prohibition on cruelty.
He needs to be kept in jail for the rest of his life and let the cellmates torture him. THEN, when he dies, the demons will take over for all of eternity...
