Now, as long as we Christians remain in the US, we're a threat to the real fascism trying to get rid of us.That's the key, isn't it ... whether it's Moslems or Hillary as the antagonist.
I look back to Rome in the 70's A.D., and say, if Christians are willing to die for Christ, we win. If we're not, we lose.

The Lennon song was played at NYC's Times Square just prior to the New Year. Did you hear it?
I hated it way back when. Still do.

Americans who embraced a theology of despair because we offered them nothing else. I know that unbelievers are blinded to spiritual truth, but that he would see Christianity's theology of hope as a theology of despair is truly remarkable.

Good grief. A lot of the time I can't stand the religious right, and for the most part I think they have hurt the GOP, but even I can see this guy is a whackjob!

"if Christians are willing to die for Christ, we win. If we're not, we lose."
You have hit a nerve there with me. I go about my business everyday, and am looking around. Almost every person I see looks so mushy that I wonder if that person could fight if it came right down to it. There doesn't seem to be any sense of being aware of those around you, of being ready for anything.
Then I look at the ME'erners on the TV who are fighting, and that's all I see: people who are ready to fight.
We're not doing our next generation anything by raising a bunch of sissies, men or women alike....or in between. That some of our young people still understand readiness and sacrifice for ideals and mission--along with God and country--just plain humbles me. To blur the distinction of living well and living aimlessly has a price that we shall all have to pay for.

Paul was always a better singer/songwriter IMO and John always seemed peeved that his former partner continued making millions while he was stuck with Yoko and a smack habit.

"theology of despair"
The older I get, the more I think that some people stop maturing at about 15 or 16. It's like targeting your parents and being determined to be opposite to them, even if it costs you your life, your lifestyle, your sanity or your soul.

8) To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again.
9) I know your afflictions and your povertyyet you are rich! I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.
10) Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.
11) He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.

In their world, everything shrinks to the world they inhabit, and nothing is valuable except what is valuable to them. They think that radical Islam is simply a r esult of poverty. It is beyond their comprehension that anyone could believe anything they don't believe.

Unfortunatly, this is how the "intellectual" left views us. Truly, the nub of the problem.
John Edwards is right. There are "Two Americas".
One sane. One not.

That some of our young people still understand readiness and sacrifice for ideals and mission--along with God and country--just plain humbles me.I agree. I've been listening to a book-on-tape about the Iraq War in 2003, and I'm amazed by the people we've got in combat.
Beyond that, I'll die before I abjure Christ. My children will do the same. Whether that will help in the Big Picture, I don't don't know ... but it's our souls on the line, and we belong to Jesus Christ.

There are "Two Americas". Hedges' is the voice of the America that gets to define reality for the rest of us--the voice of the New York Times, the voice of the MSM.

I must be missing the news reports about all the crazy Christians who are murdering peaceful moslums and gays. Why can't the liberals acknowledge the real fanatics who want to murder them and all their gay friends? The liberals don't want to admit that Christians are the only thing standing between the swords of Islam and their liberal necks..

Emile Zola was once given access to the records at Lourdes. He saw visible proof of an instantaneous healing, x-rays of a man who shinbone was in a day restored. He seems genuinely to believe the evidence before his eyes. But he never published the story. Instead he wrote a novel, in which a similar cure was shown to be a hoax. The ultimate empircist and refused to accept the evidence of his sense. To save his world view, he had to create a fictional reality--the one where God does not exist.
