BUSH CANDOR: DECISIONS HAVE MADE IRAQ MORE UNSTABLE
Drudge Report ^ | January 13, 2007 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 01/13/2007 11:15:33 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

The president concedes that his decisions have led to more instability in Iraq. President Bush made the admission in an exclusive interview with Scott Pelley at Camp David yesterday (12), his first interview since addressing the nation about Iraq. It will be broadcast on 60 MINUTES Sunday, Jan. 14 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The president says the current sectarian violence in Iraq, is a destabilizing factor that "could lead to attacks here in America" and must be controlled. He defended his decision to invade Iraq in the same way, saying Saddam was competing with Iran to get a nuclear weapon and making the region unstable. But when pressed by Pelley, Bush concedes that conditions in Iraq are much worse now.

Pelley: But wasn't it your administration that created the instability in Iraq? Bush: "Our administration took care of a source of instability in Iraq. Envision a world in which Saddam Hussein was rushing for a nuclear weapon to compete against Iran... He was a significant source of instability. Pelley: It's much more unstable now, Mr. President. Bush: Well, no question, decisions have made things unstable.

"I think history is going to look back and see a lot of ways we could have done things better. No question about it," says Bush.

Toppling Saddam was not a mistake, however. "My decision to remove Saddam Hussein was the correct decision in my judgment. We didn't find the weapons we thought we would find or the weapons everybody thought he had. But he was a significant source of instability," Bush tells Pelley. "We liberated that country from a tyrant. I think the Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude and I believe most Iraqi's express that."

The execution of Saddam was mishandled, says the president, who saw only parts of it on the Internet because he didn't want to watch the dictator fall through the trap door. "I thought it was discouraging... It's important that that chapter of Iraqi history be closed. [But] They could have handled it a lot better."

How about 3000 dead Americans...

My instincts tell me that the 3000 dead today will save multiple times that in the future. The Mideast was (is) headed in the wrong direction and the decision was made to intervene and have a chance of changing things for the better in the long term.

President Bush[43] doesn't have anything to apologize for. Those that should apologize are the members of congress that would only give President GW Bush [41] limited authorization and capabilities in '91. If we'd gone in and finished the job during Desert Storm, instead of completing half the job then pulling out, the Iraqi's wouldn't be so hesitant trusting us now.

Instead of expecting an apology you should be on your knee's thanking the Good Lord for our President who has spent every waking hour since his first inauguration, keeping us safe from further attacks, a job that's become so much more difficult since November 7th 2006, when the idiots in this country gave the power to the enemies of this great nation.

You need to format your brain, what little there is of it, and re-install the truth, instead of storing the lies spread by the likes of DU.

Just as a memory jog for you, President Bush was still trying to get his cabinet confirmed right up till just before 9/11.

In retrospect, it most likely would have saved lives by bombing the hell out of Iraq at the start of the war.

These people only understand and ultimitely respect brute force.

Also there's the fact, that most have chosen to ignore when I've posted the link, that clinton in the early 90's set up a school in So. California where the terrorists could train for the 9/11 disaster.

Today that school is used by the commie lefties to train idiot moon-bats how to cheat and steal elections.

That's another hypothetical situation that happens to be false in this case.

Your pathetic.

You need to revise that statement as it lacks a verb and, therefore, meaning.

If you do not know what I am talking about, I suggest repeating junior high English if you have taken it.

You really gave yourself away as an [your vulgarity] because if the Muzzies win and take over, not only you won't have your tax money and you won't exist either.

That might happen if President Bush continues to support Moslems with our tax dollars (Here is another example).

Bush should apologize for letting our tax dollars unconstitutionally support Islam.

Tony Snow was an awfully good first step, don'cha think?

NO! I don't think he has done anything to get the word out. Since he came, I believe that the democratic information has been even less questioned by Tony. During the entire election, Tony was awful!!!! What do you think he has done to improve things in regards to successes????

"3,000 dead volunteer military men and women who believe in their mission and you're whining? THEY aren't whining about their mission and how hard it is, but armchair military wannabe freepers sure are."

I agree with you 100%. The ones that God has taken are still there. They are still leading my younger Brothers and Sisters that are in country. God Bless America and ALL WHO have and will be serving America. We have the BEST of the BEST that are protecting us and these politically correct people need to wise up and realize WHY they can keep spouting the trash that they do. The reason is because the BEST of the BEST are doing what they are doing. God Bless America and All who have and will serve America.

I do believe it is time to just ignore the DUish crap posted by The_Eaglet. Let the puckish pontifications of The_Eagle fall soundlessly upon deaf ears , as does the tree that falls in the forest, un-noted by ears.

YOU'RE NOT ONLY PATHETIC, YOU'RE A TYPICAL DU SLEEPER TROLL!

President Bush owes none of us who have lost a son or daughter or the nation an apology. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, buster. For even thinking that you need to get help for your 'cindy sheehan syndrome.'

[Note to self...place this idiot on 'ignore' list]

No! ...I believe that the democratic information has been even less questioned by Tony.

Me thinks you're mistaken or confused about the function of the Presidential Press Secretary, corporate media spokesman, or even an individual publicist.

A Tony Snow-type is put forward to present Presidential events, policies, and actions. In the best light possible and with interpretation clarity. His is NOT to question nor confront the media advesarily in trial lawyer fashion.

In a perfect world it's suppose to be a partnership (stress on perfect world). A Tony Snow gives information to the group to level the playing field and provide for efficiency of dissemination

Understand? Try this...

A Press Secretary is there to explain, amplify and, yes, sell, whatever the days 'product' (i.e., Iraq War, the economy, new programs, etc) might be. In response, he's also tasked with anticipation, from the invited questions, what direction the information he presents might be 'spun' by the particular news organization fielding questions.

At that time he may proactively counter/clarify, deflect, (or may chose not too, but give the Boss a 'heads up') or otherwise manage the direction. Tony has done this well.

Witness his handling of Helen Thomas, David Gregory, et al

The 'questioning' of how that information is ultimately used upon distribution, maligned, misquoted, or slanted is left to FOX, Limbaugh, Hannity, FR, LGF, you, and I.

Were that not the case a Tony Snow might take the podium and say "Helen Thomas, that was a bunch of real s**t you wrote yesterday, and here's why....".

I'd like to see it, but it would never happen; it's not Tonys' job. At present, there is no CounterPoint Press Secretary and I don't expect to see one.

Make sense?

If not, well, your entitled to your opinion....

Great information! Unless people wake up to the dangers here at home from the donks and their commie socialist liberals, we are in deep trouble. Thank you for your commitment to the truth.
