SHANNON, Ireland - Americans' skeptical view of the Iraq war won't change until they see progress there, but the United States won't "pull the plug" on the conflict, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said.

Rice would not detail any backup strategy if President Bush's new plan to turn around the war comes up short, or if the Iraq government fails to hold up its end.
"We're going to get an opportunity to see whether or not this is working, whether or not the Iraqis are living up to their obligations," Rice said Friday.
She decried what she called "the notion ... that, 'Are you just going to pull the plug?'"
"We're not pulling the plug on Iraq," she said.
Most Americans now say they do not support the war or approve of Bush's handling of it.
"What will convince the American people that there's going to be a good outcome here is changes on the ground," Rice said. "No poll is going to change until there is something to show."

It would be a National Security threat to pull out of Iraq.
Those who wish to pull out (before Iraq is stable) are a National Security threat too.

We should encourage the Iraqi's to slaughter each other. We should encourage all Muslims to slaughter each other.
Why in gods name should we care as long as the Muzzies keep dying by the trunkful?

We should encourage the Iraqi's to slaughter each other. Easy does it.
We need to help them get along together.

I hear tell that it is irreconcilable because the Shia's want the successor to Islam to be a Mohammad blood line and the Sunnni's say no.
If this is the case and if this is irreconcilable, then get it on and over with. They should have taken care of this issue over a thousand years ago.

I think we are trying to do that, but it is extremely hard when they date this back to the death of Mohammad.
You know that saying, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink? Maybe what we need to do is, while we are taking the horse to water, feed the horse saltine crackers. Maybe the horse will be thirsty enough to drink.
This means that we should let them get it on and maybe they will want peace one day. We also need to love our enemy by lifting them up and give them hope. So, they will choose this life style rather then a terrorist life style.
Kuwait has three types of Muslims who live together peacefully because they have trickle down economics. If we can do this in Iraq, maybe the people will have hope and choose peace?

There are roughly 50 attacks against Iraqi civilians each day. Maybe 100-200 people doing the killing out of a population of 28 million. Not all of the attacks are sectarian. Some are against coalition forces or simple to foment anarchy for political means.
If the majority of Iraqis believed their religion required them to kill the carnage would be like Rwanda.

Allowing them to fight it out, though, seemingly without end, would seem to defeat the purpose of staying there.
I understand your frustration.

Should we let the Kurds down for the third time?
Right now they're the only ones who have their act together living in peace and prospering.
Bush Sr. broke his word when he failed to help the Kurdish Rebellion after the first Gulf War.
Clinton got cold feet when the Kurds wanted to stage a bloodless coup against Saddam in 1995. Clinton's inaction caused a civil war between two Kurdish parties. A ceasefire was not declared until 1998.

I will not let the Kurds down. But the problem does not lie with them. Sunni's and Shia's want to kill each other.
