Nifong gone from the case. Next step should be indicting Nifong.
Who is going to indict him? NC has no oversight process for this. The DA for the county in which he met with Meehan and conspired to obstruct justice could do it, but he doesn't have the case files yet. He (or she) could interview Meehan and maybe develop the case from there, but it's a huge undertaking for a prosecutor to decide to do that to another prosecutor. It also wouldn't encompass the in-court perjury surrounding the DNA report because that happened in Durham County, although it could be used as evidence. The feds? They act very slowly, if they act at all. We don't know yet if they're going to do anything or not. The state AG? If Cooper was going to do anything, he'd have done it by now. He's already said he has no jurisdiction, and he apparently thinks that extends to criminal prosecution, which of course makes no sense, but rats always protect rats.
