There's nothing complex or convoluted about it. Make the accused feel the heat, leak to the press. It doesn't take a conspiracy. One guy could do it. And do it. And do it. This, after all, has been going since spring.
Doesn't even have to be a particularly sinister motive. Could be a guy wanting to boost his career by bringing this messy case to a tidy close.
