Rep. Ron Paul has filed papers in Texas to create a presidential exploratory committee that will allow him to raise money, the Associated Press reported late Thursday. The nine-term congressman from southeast Texas was the Libertarian nominee for president in 1988 and received more than 400,000 votes, the AP reported. This time he plans to run as a Republican.

And now from his buddy:

Tancredo Comments on Bush Iraq Speech

( Washington, D.C. ) – Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO) today said in response to President Bush’s speech:

“Few, certainly not I, would disagree with the President's well articulated goal of a peaceful where the seeds of democracy can grow. I was also encouraged by his stated commitment to a November deadline for the Iraqi government to assume responsibility for its own security,” said Tancredo, Member of the Congressional Foreign Affairs Committee.

“The bigger question raised by the President, however, is whether an increased American military presence in Iraq will aid us in winning the global war against radical Islam -- and I am not convinced that it will,” concluded Tancredo.

wow, this is interesting!

I cannot wait to see if the "usual suspects" turn up to bash him like they have Rudy and Mitt and McCain.

If they don't, this could be their guy!

If the Republican Party is to flourish, the executive/country club set must take the back seat. Those kind are also supporters of the Democrat Party as well.

You sound like a complete loser when you say that.

He's been one of their darlings for years...the fact that he wants to surrender probably won't deter them.

just having him in the run should carry some benefits for this nation.

Thats a good reason he should be a Libertarian candidate (again). Hell, that's the best reason for the existence of the Libertarian Party.

Do you have a link to his bashing of Christians and the United States? He actually stated on the floor that Christian fundamentalism was responsible for our actions in Iraq and that we wanted Muslims destroyed because they are different from us.

Why do I get the feeling you aren't totally joking.

Probably because I'm not.

Trivia question: Who was the only US Representative to vote against giving Charles Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts cartoon, the Congressional Gold Medal posthumously?

(I probably asked this on the wrong thread...)

His stance on the WOT is enough for me to look elsewhere for a candidate. I will not vote for someone weak on defense.

That's what I meant, really, really big ones. Those reasons alone would cause me to "mark his name off the list," as the owner of the team said in Major League.

RP has voted all by his lonesome on innumerable occasions.

....and that's why he's Dr. No.

So you, too, think we should pull out of Iraq?

I didn't see that one but I'm sure it's there; when I googled him I found that Lew Crockwell has a whole archive of his crap.

I have to admit this is kind of refreshing though. Normally this fringe whack-jobs blame the Jews for us fighting the war on terror.
