"I wonder why increasingly more people are doing it." There are many reasons not all of them good. My first encounter with it was through Leftist political organizations back in the sixties. Then there were the communes, religious communities, people motivated by ideals of various sorts.

There are many indications of home schooling successes. This is a self-selecting success since those knowing they cannot do it DON'T. Howevere, there are also those who think they can and cannot. Like many private endeavors it does not address public needs which is not what it is intended to do in any case.

Public needs. That says it all. I'll do what's best for my child. You social scientists can craft your utopias with someone else's children. And you'll do it with my money until I get my school vouchers, or government schools close shop.
