Howie live thread.
A press conference was aired on WRKO re: the new morning show with Tom Finneran. Start date will be Feb 12. Scott Allen Miller will continue in his current slot until then and he may wind up elsewhere at Entercom after his show ends.
Finneran says the show will feature everything from politics to sports (oh, the press conference just ended and the first caller said it was a sad day for the station, and the caller said Finneran was an "arrogant, condescending, liar").
I think it was said Finneran might appear on Howie's show later today but I could be wrong. When asked about Howie, Finneran said "at one time, Howie thought I was a rising star. Now he thinks I'm a fraud".
Wolfe and Kahn said they knew WRKO had to have local content, not something piped in from LA or NY.
Didn't get the ping.
I didn't ping yet when you saw the post...because I was putting a reply on the post that had the ping.
My mistake.Finneran on at 5:30 with Howie?
I will say that Finneran is now apparently in one of the "headers" on the WRKO site.
some of what was said at the presser, transcribed by me

I guess I'll tune in out of curiosity, but the last guy I want to listen to in the morning is Tommy Finneran. I wonder how warmly he'll be received by the audience. And if he does have very important and beautiful people on, if he'll allow any tough questions.
WRKO has the Tom Finneran presser (video) on their site and I'll try to upload it to my site. You'll need a flash player (I use Riva which is free). 29 MB file.
up shortly:

No way I'll listen to Finneran. I've gotten to like Scott Allen Miller. I really miss Peter Blute with Andy Moes...they were entertaining.
Blute can be heard mornings on WCRN AM 830 Worcester (one of Howie's stations)
An audio version of the presser is now being uploaded.

18 minutes, 17 MB. Oh, and Jason Wolfe DID say "tune in today at 5:30 pm" (for what I presume will be Finneran appearing on Howie's show)
The highpoint was "The Governors" in the afternoon. Jerry Williams, Barbara Anderson and Howie. That was a great show.
Finneran will indeed be on Howie's show today at 5:30.
from Herald: more job cuts at the Globe
Globe faces more job cuts
By Jesse Noyes
Boston Herald Business Reporter
Boston Globe employees face a big round of job cuts, with as many as 19 editorial jobs on the chopping block, according to internal memos obtained by the Herald.
A memo from Publisher P. Steven Ainsley said The New York Times [NYT] Co.s New England Media Group, which includes the Globe and Worcester Telegram & Gazette, is looking to slash 125 jobs.
A separate memo from Globe Editor Martin Baron says about 17 jobs will be cut from the broadsheets newsroom and two positions will be lost from the papers opinion pages.
Some open positions in the newsroom will also be frozen, the Baron memo said.
The New England Media Group will offer voluntary buyouts to employees who have worked at the company for 10 years or more, according to Ainsleys memo. The company is also planning to outsource a number of jobs, the memo states.
Employees at Boston.com will not be affected by the round of layoffs, the memo states.
Baron, who is out of town, sent the memo to newsroom staff. The broadsheets top editor was apparently surprised by the timing of the announcement. In the memo he said he expected to be in the newsroom when the announcement was made.
As we have done in the past, we will re-examine all of our work, looking for ways to streamline and reorganize, Baron said in the memo. And as with past buyouts, we will have to make hard choices, even discontinuing some work.
Part of Howie's column for tomorrow is already up at the Herald site
Listen to me, Tom Finneran. Ill always be there for you when you have a problem at the radio station.
Think of me as your probation officer. Whenever youre gripped with an overwhelming state-rep urge to, say, steal a hot stove, come to Mr. Carr. Consider me the ankle bracelet you should be wearing. And incidentally, keep your sticky felon fingers off my headphones in the studio. I have the phone number in Judge Stearns lobby, pal. You could still end up on the BOP.gov website under Inmate Locator.
It would be easy to make jokes about this latest development in the one-man crime wave that is the former speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
I could say, there goes the neighborhood.
Or that radio companies just arent making moral-turpitude clauses like they used to.
But hey, as much as I wish that Finneran had gone to prison, where he so obviously belongs, hes now working with me, so Im trying to look on the bright side. Like, are the rumors true about how much money hes getting - 400 large, a half-million? That would be real good news for me, because a rising tide lifts all boats.
John F. Kennedy said that. He was never convicted of obstruction of justice, by the way.
Talk about a guy who was down to his underwear in the great strip poker game of life. Finneran had just been forced out of his $416,000 job, God willing, hell be disbarred, or at the very least suspended from the practice of law, and hell lose his $30,000 state pension - knock on wood.
Cripes, if he doesnt get the job at my radio station, his fallback was the IHOP on Soldiers Field Road. You know what they say. When one door closes, another one opens.
In Felon Finnerans case, it was going to be a swinging door, into the IHOP kitchen.
Boy, oh boy, Howie's audience is riled. Don't blame them. I can't stand Finneran and will never listen.
I also want to know what becomes of Rush's show when the Red Sox start airing on WRKO this spring?
ANSWER: Finneran must know where "the bones are buried".
But that won't help the impending boycott by WRKO's listeners
against the advertisers who now support Democratic felons.
