This "strategy" will only result in more senseless bloodshed unless the Bush administration allows the troops to go after the militias and loosens the ROEs.

Hmmm...no detail on how we'll counter the Iranian "troop surge."

Paragraph #3 is quite poignant. I think most Americans know things aren't going well, but they don't know WHY it's not going well.

"We can begin by working together to increase the size of the active Army and Marine Corps, so that America has the Armed Forces we need for the 21st century"

End of the Rumsfeld Doctrine.

I don't know if it is, and I haven't read it because I want to hear from President Bush, but I just had a huge blowout via phone with the Angry White Male aka Mr. X, who seems to think I am foolish for asking him to say a prayer for the President. He said this, I said that...the course of true love leads to a muddy ditch, again. *sigh*

Frankly, after the way that all Americans have treated President Bush, I hope he gets up there and quits, loudly.
All these armchair generals, naysayers, malcontents (and that's on our side) should try to do his job for a single day. Just think back on the last six yrs. and tell me that this man hasn't faced more challenges that any other single human being in the history of our country. Would it kill anyone, especially the one issue people, to just ask God to give this brave and good man a few moments peace before every eye in the world, and every viper in the Congress, is upon him?

unless the Bush administration allows the troops to go after the militias and loosens the ROEs.

I guess you didn't go to the White House site and read about "going after Iranian actors (read Al Sadar and other Shiites working under Iranian tutelage), and there's a bunch about disarming/disbanding the militias.

I think the ROEs they are a changin.

Drudge only has one siren up. sigh!

Maybe if the President delivers a different speech, there'll be two sirens, maybe three. :)

This begins with addressing Iran and Syria. These two regimes are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops.

They've been doing it for 4 years. What happened to "with us or againt us"? When the 1st Pasdaran camp is hit, then things will have changed. Until then, this is all lip service

On September the 11th, 2001, we saw what a refuge for extremists on the other side of the world could bring to the streets of our own cities. For the safety of our people, America must succeed in Iraq.

I can hear The Lady Of The House already: "(Gasp!) How darrrrrrre he politicize the war in Iraq!"

Our enemies in Iraq will make every effort to ensure that our television screens are filled with images of death and suffering.

Heh, heh. "Our enemies in Iraq" is code for "our enemies at ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, PBS...."

"Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me."

When was the last time you heard a dem accept responsibility for any mistakes? I think the President is an honorable man and I am proud of him as CiC.

This "strategy" will only result in more senseless bloodshed unless the Bush administration allows the troops to go after the militias and loosens the ROEs.

President Bush has specifically stated that the ROE have chnaged. He's also made it clear to Maliki that the militias are fair game and since the ROE has changed I assume that means a lot of killing.

I was dubious about an increase in troops unless the ORE changed, Baghdad was the focus of most of those troops and something was done about Sadr. 4000 Marines are going to Anbar. I think President Bush and Maliki both understand that this is the last shot at the apple.

So I support the troop increase and wish President Bush, General Petraeus and the troops Godspeed.
