My mom wanted me to spend the summer in 1979 with my sister and brother-in-law on Guam (he was in the Air Force) . After a few weeks of being a beach bum, I went to the bowling alley on base with a couple of other teen-aged girls. My future husband heard my southern drawl and asked to be introduced to me.

My heart literally skipped a beat. I can still smell his cologne. I can tell you the funny shirt he had on. I never let him throw it away. It is still in our attic and has survived many moves with the Coast Guard. We will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this September. We are now much older and we have two beautiful (and smart) daughters.

It is so strange, because we both knew almost immediately that we would one day be married.
