Vandalism suspect pays doubly for trouble

GRAPEVINE - Vandalism wasn’t supposed to be this painful.

A suspected vandal who told police he had been drinking “way too much” almost sliced his finger off Monday night when he attempted to slash a tire on a van on Timberline Drive.

Police found the 23-year-old Grapevine man with his right pinky finger cut through the bone.

The man was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas late Monday to get his finger reattached, police said. No information was available Wednesday on his condition. He is expected to be arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief after he leaves the hospital.

Police received a report of an intoxicated person bleeding shortly after 11 p.m. Monday from an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Timberline Drive.

Officers found the suspected vandal in the parking lot, and the man said he had been drinking and slashed the tires of someone he didn’t know.

Investigators found one tire cut with about $150 damage. But the large folding knife the man was using closed on his finger when he tried to slash a second tire, police said.

“He said it was a stupid move,” said Grapevine police Sgt. Bob Murphy.

Good thing that the cops found him in the act and not one of his victims.

“He said it was a stupid move,”

I don't know - I'm not all that broke up about it.

I'll bet he will not be fined even one quarter of the medical bill for his finger reattachment.

Oh the bill will be steep, no doubt. Bet he doesn't have the means to pay it, though. He doesn't strike me as a hardworking, dependable sort for some reason.

It's not his fault, you know. It's all the fault of the uncaring, Republican-dominated Congress for failing to pass legislation mandating a waiting period and background check on the sale of folding knives.

(Major, MAJOR sarcasm, btw >:) )

A side thought - the title is likely quite misleading - who do you think actually paid for his hospital bill? After all, he was in police custody when care was rendered....

If the idiot was trying to slash tires across the tread, no wonder his knife folded on him!

This is why I always use a non-folding knife to slash tires. Guys like this one make all us vandals look stupid.

Word, and don't forget he was intoxicated! No self-respecting vandal would ply his craft under the influence. Wait till the union gets wind of this rogue...
