Officials: Bush upset by Hussein hanging video
CNN ^ | January 10, 2007

President Bush was upset after watching the video of Saddam Hussein's execution, comparing it to how he felt after seeing the photographs of Iraqi prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib, White House officials said Wednesday.

Dark, grainy video -- apparently recorded on a cell phone -- of Hussein's December 30 hanging was leaked to the media soon after the execution.

In the video, taunts from Shiites can be heard moments before Hussein, a Sunni, is hanged.

After Hussein offers prayers, the guards shout praise for Muqtada al-Sadr, the radical Shiite cleric whose father is believed to have been murdered by Hussein's regime.

They chant, "Muqtada! Muqtada! Muqtada!"

Hussein smiles. "Is this how you show your bravery as men?" he asks.

"Straight to hell," someone shouts back at him.

"Is this the bravery of Arabs?" Hussein asks.

His execution was cold justice under the law, and it should have been performed as such.

I agree. I also would've had him sung a couple of hymns before the trap door was sprung. Even a mass murderer like Saddam is entitled to a dignified hanging.

What's more, the hymn singing would've shown him the gentle side of America. When he was in American custody, he was well-treated and seemed to appreciate our professionalism. That's the message I would've preferred to see come out.

I'm upset this wasn't a public hanging. It should've been.

"The info comes from the proverbial, unnamed White House official."

Which the MSN convieniently pulls out of it's ass for occassions such as this.

Okay, who took the Dubya that was elected twice?

The Dubya with a swagger, the Dubya that made "The Bush Doctrine". The "Bring It On" Dubya. The "You're With Us Or Against Us Dubya". The "Wanted Dead Or Alive" Dubya?

So whomever has him, return him. I want him back dammit and stat!

{An aside: Isn't the comparison to Abu Ghraib and 'shock' and 'outrage' the mantra the leftist moonbats are using??]

Had Saddam's rightful execution been made public for all to see, all the drama surounding this rag tag execution would not be happening.

The truthful thing about this that had there been a high class well run and yes, even respectful execution, people would be crabbing about much ado being made about the execution and it being exploited for a whole host of reasons.

I can understand why the execution, done as it was, is found to be disturbing by our President. It should have been handled better. But let's keep one thing in mind, we did not try him, we did not convict him, and most importantly, we did not execute him. His own countrymen did all those things and the whole deal rests now in the history of the Iraqi people and the Iraqi nation.

The best part about this whole deal is that now Saddam can finally be over. Sure, we have a few straggling articles complaining about the way in which he was executed but they will not last long. I am glad it is finally done and I hope the world (especially the media) can find the stones to MOVE ON.

A public hanging wouldn't have gone very well. I'd expect rioting, a rescue attempt, or some sort of attack. They executed him in the dead of night because they felt they had to. And it was a surprise announcement, so as to limit the chance of something going wrong.

I agree. It would have been much more effective to have shown it from official cameras.

I read the article. The taunting sort of bothered me, BUT that's what happens when one is hung by those with families murdered by your regime. Did Hussein deserve to die with more dignity? Maybe. Maybe not. It was more than he gave out.

I don't think that Dubya ever existed. He was a creation of his handlers.

Bush can build a bridge. Justice in action should never upset anyone, except the bad guys.

The people in that region have been doing a lot worse for much less and for centuries.

No kidding. I didn't notice that the press was so upset when Daniel Pearl, Nick Berg, Paul Johnson and many others were executed by Islamofascist murderers after no trial, much less the fact that the executions involved having their heads hacked or slowly sawed off.

Screw the press, screw PC, screw those impeding our prosecution of this war and, most of all, screw our nation's enemies.

Better put on your nomex.

too many around here think that it was no biggies, as if the way we act has something to do with the way that he and any other scumbag dictator act.

I do believe that he should have been exectuced - after he stood trial before the Kurds - but this was just a Shiite mob.

What a coincidence! I feel the same way about Saddam's rope dance as I do about Abu Ghraib, too......

...and the U.S. had already washed her hands of the whole affair. It was Iraq's business and the way the justice was carried out was their culture, not ours.

You mean he wasn't mocking Saddam by saying "Please Don't Kill Me."
