Let's see if this will comeback and hurt him

According to what they are saying in NH the so-called independents that supported McCain in 1991 have now become firm democrats and more left than McCain, ergo, NH is no longer his ace in the hole..... what worries me is the grip he seems to have to the GOP in South Carolina.
His Health Care Plan is a private sector solution that requires people to buy insurance. Yes it puts Gov't money into buying insurance for those who can't pay but it is supposedly cheaper than using that same money to pay for emergency room care the way it is done now. Now, I'm skeptical too but it like the drug program was done by keeping the private sector engaged instead of just creating a Gov't bureaucracy like the Democrats surely would have done. What is the conservative approach? Close the hospitals? Allow them to refuse service? It ain't gonna happen.
"His Universal Health Care Plan is being touted by Kennedy today, I don't call that conservative, not by a long shot."
I suspect because that's because you haven't actually read the plan. I have. And while it's certainly not my ideal, it is a perfectly reasonable conservative solution for MASSACHUSETTS. This is what people fail to realize, likely because they don't live in Massachusetts. Massachusetts has a unique health care system, which hands away more then a billion in free care (in government expenses alone) each year. Romney's plan is at least partially aimed at eliminating the necessity of this spending. It does all sorts of other nice things. Making health care portable from job to job. Allowing individuals to purchase health care with pre-tax dollars. And his original plan was even more conservative, though the legislature overrode all of his vetoes.
1994 -- but does that really matter? The video is in color, so it's not that old.
If Romney becomes President, what is to stop him from doing the same thing Arnie is doing? Those two seem to be pretty much on the same page politically.
Add in the fact: Romney's family came from Mexico and he still has a lot of relative in Mexico. I can't see him being other than sympathetic to illegals, just as George Bush has been; we cannot afford another open border President.
"Not "just" abortion, he also believes in gay rights and he sort of proved that belief wasn't a 1994 anomaly."
He proved nothing of the sort. I'd caution you highly to avoid taking individuals like EternalVigilance and MassResistance. Their constitutional knowledge is embarrassingly poor. The gay marriage ban is very likely going to the ballot in 08'. I've heard numerous activists, both for and against Romney, that this wouldn't have occurred without, among other things, his use of the bully-pulpit to promote the issue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJXyDxMKv1E
Romney may have supported ENDA is 1994, but his record on gay issues as governor should be more then acceptable to any conservative activist.
Healthcare in this country stops being what we have always had, the best in the world, especially if Kennedy and Hillary get their way and doctors are basically placed into servitude.
That's news to me... I thought his father was George Romney who was elected three times as the Governor of Michigan and was Nixon's HUD director. Anyway, Romney also directed the Mass State Police to arrest illegals. That order was promptly revoked when Duval Patrick was elected Governor of Mass.
Mitt and Kerry are from the same neck of the woods. They will say anything that they need to get where they want to be. Flip and Flop
As far as "this was a long time ago" apology, that is pure garbage. This guy is pure snake oil.
He should just say that he was mis-quoted and had really meant to say "Laminites".
Thank you for your mature and sensible reply. Everyone at some point experiences a change in their thinking on some issue or another. I use to be quite pro-gun control for instance. I've since seen the folly of that idea and realize govt. control over gun sales will do little to change crime stats. The fact I changed that position hardly makes me a liberal. If anything, it indicates I'm becoming my conservative.
Ping to post #28.
"We all know why the hospital emergency rooms all over the country are stuggling, and it's not because poor American's don't have insurance, it's because illegals are using it as their personal revolving door for medical care, therefore in California Arnie want's citizens to pay for health care for everyone, including illegals...

Romney pushed through a plan, which may or may not be rescinded by Deval, to allow state troopers to arrest illegals they encounter in the course of their duties. Hard to believe it wasn't happening before, but it represents one of the most significant steps any state has taken in regards to illegal immigration. Very few states, and surely none nearly as liberal as Massachusetts, allow this (under 10).
He'd gobble quite a few Democratic votes too. I'd like to see a poll among Democrats over McCain.
Where do you get that he's for "gay rights?" He lead the charge against the Mass. Supreme Court's decision on gay marriage and tried to get it banned in the Commonwealth. As a fellow Mormon of Mitt's, I can tell you we Mormons are not for gay rights in any way other than they having the same constitutional rights as anyone else, but with no special protections nor right to marry. Sorry, but unless you can back up this claim I have to vigorously dispute. NO ACTIVE MORMON, and Mitt is an active Mormon, would claim to be for special rights for gays.
Or simply admit that we are not conservatives any more than Arlan Spector is. - Choose.
Here in Arizona we ran a good Mormon man (R) on the governor ticket against Janet Napolitano (D) back in 2002 and we even have a heavily mormon city in Mesa. But, we lost to a liberal GAY democrat who still sits downtown and takes credit for all of Arizonas financial successes while vetoeing every single conservative bill brought before her desk! My opinion is that the Republicans would be better off voting for someone who is strong on the war on terror and can speak up for himself as the press certainly won't do it for him.!
