Unless Romney has a Mark Foley problem that comes out, he will probably get my vote in the primary. The War on Terror takes precedence over abortion and school prayer stuff.
Good points. And there is the issue of uniting the country - or moving toward greater unification. Romney can do that, too. He actually likes to hear different and opposing views!
Social conservatism is a major concern for many FReepers. Judging from his record as Governor of Massachusetts (2002-2006), Mitt Romney will stand firmly for the pro-life position when faced with a decision regarding abortion law. I havent read anything about Romneys views on school prayer.
He proposed a moratorium on changes to abortion law in his run for Governor in 2002 and made good on the promise during his term in office. In ultra-liberal MA, the Democrat dominated state Legislature sought to enact more liberal abortion law and a moratorium was a very unpopular stand.
Romney vetoed a bill to give kids access to emergency contraception without parents knowledge. He vetoed a bill to expand research in stem cell research involving cloning of human embryos even though his wife has multiple sclerosis and despite the overwhelmingly hostile liberal majority in the MA Legislature. Romney opposes Roe v. Wade and thinks states should set abortion policy.
FYI, Romney is pro-life, and he's done more than just say it. He's actually taken action as governor to help the cause. It's true that he's only recently come around to the pro-life position, but his forceful actions convince me of its sincerity.
