Cato, in keeping with your censorious sobriquet, you should explain to this inquiring Gypsy, that as a general rule, for any American having graduated from public high school post 1962, the mental processes may not be fully formed, and the cerebral hard drive very short of any real data. In fact, I'll wager that this statistical post-1962 person reads at what was the 6th grade level in 1950. Present company excepted, of course.

The election of JFK in 1960 marked the beginning of the end of the upside era in American History. The slide down began for the public with the end of any semblance of real information, as opposed to the incandescent but smelly "Camelot" Bullshiite, centered around The Perpetual Adoration of St. John of Massachusetts, Virgin and Martyr, which perversion of fact continues unabated to this very day.

The 1960's? It was the era when the power structure began handing over the asylum to the inmates. BTW, it was the era when they closed the asylum; releasing crazies to the streets. Perhaps a good way to learn about the 60's might be to interview one of the many 60-year-old homeless guys who lived them. They had a great time then, to pay for it now with drug-dead brains.

The 60's? A lot of fun for some folks. Sure Woodstock and the '67 Summer of Love had their moments, but then so did sailing on the Titanic.

I consider the "beginning of the end of the upside era in American History" (as you so aptly put it) began with LBJ's "Great Society" nonsense.

Indeed.

My own paradigm of the Kennedys:

St. John the Martyr
Robert the Dead
Edward the Pretender to the Throne of St. John (also known as "Pond Scum")

As you can gather, I was not (and am not) a fan of the Kennedy Clan. I was at VMI when Robert was assassinated, and I have to tell you the place was not exactly filled with the rending of clothes and tearing of hair or moaning at the bar....even among the (many) Democrats (this being the South). As a Christian, I am ashamed to say that my reaction was that the country had been saved from a very dangerous man.
