Time to make everyone in SEC country mad at me.
Boise St. 2007 Football Bowl Subdivision National Champions.
Here is some logic for you.
Florida lost to Auburn
Auburn lost to Arkansas
Arkansas lost to USC
USC lost to Oregon State
Oregon State lost to Boise State
Who did Boise State lose to this season? NOBODY !!
Save the argument about strength of schedule and "didn't play nobody". How many SEC teams play non-conference road games? Think any SEC teams would play Boise State (or any other non-BCS team) home and home?
When someone says it ain't the money --- it is the money.
Dude...the other part of this is that you should be careful what you ask for. There's a reason big schools call these games "rent-a-wins". When big teams do home and aways, like Arkansas trading games with Texas and USC, it's as if it's an SEC game...everybody paid their own way for the travel and expenses and such and did whatever it is they do with revenue. When we bring in schools like Boise St. or Utah State, we pay your schools big bucks to be there. That's why these small schools are willing to come and get pounded every year. It is a MAJOR part of funding your programs. Does your Athletic dept have the $$ to do it the way the big kids do it? Probably not right now or you wouldn't be signing up for these. Maybe in time, but not right now more than likely.
More logical than the BCS system. BTW - College football and logic don't mix.
What's next -- allow uninformed people to choose our politicians ( holy **** ).
Bingo, we have a winner!!!!!!!!!!!
It's no secret it's money. That's why those are called "rent-a-win" games if you talk to any SEC fan.
Hopefully, BS U would have earned enough money from the Fiesta Bowl to afford a proper coating of color for their joke of a field...LOL.
Stir the pot? LOL!
We whupped OSU and no amount of Gator baiting will take that away today. :-)
Without a playoff system, might as well split the FBS into 1-A and 1-B and have separate divisions (that is what the system essentially is now).
BS won because of trick plays. They needed them to defeat a lesser-rated team....and BARELY pulled it out. That's not the work of a champion, in my book.
If we were to play the silly game that the head of this thread advocates, a few questions would settle matters: If Florida played OU, would the game go into overtime? Would Florida need three trick plays to win? I doubt it.
This thread belongs on DemocraticUnderground. It's that silly.
Now folks remember that the Gators have played tough non-conference series. They had their first home-and-home with Miami a couple of years ago. How did that one turn out ... ?
Hey, watch this --- I was born in Massachusetts !!! --- INCOMING --- ROFLOL.
That game wouldn't work. You can't say "WOULD". What happens on any given day you don't know until it happens. Using that logic, Ohio State should be national champs because they were favored and most of the "experts" picked them to win.
Playoff has always been the only answer.
Have something called the: "If needed bowl."
If 2 are in dispute, set up a game. If 3 are in dispute, pick the #4 team and then set up 2 games.
You'd never need more than 1 or 2 games, and they'd be HUGE money-makers.
Your Southern Miss example is the same thing. They have a mid-size stadium -- 40-50,000 at most -- the SEC teams have 85-100,000 seat stadiums. Both teams make money if the game is played in the SEC stadium.
SO, yes it is about the money, but it is about the money on both sides. SEC schools would LOSE money traveling to a small school, whereas both teams MAKE money playing in the larger SEC stadiums.
It is economically irresponsible for Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, etc etc to travel to EAST-WEST PODUNK STATE University to play a football game.
It's a university (the "U" in BSU).

The Boise State basketball team would have almost no hope of beating the Gators team but at least they'd be given an opportunity to play them.
The Nobel Peace Prize has more legitimacy than the BCS. Until there is a playoff system, the "champion" is nothing more than the winner of a beauty contest. Follow the money.....
You did...
Either have a playoff or split FBS into 1-A / 1-B with their own championship mechanism.
