Afghans don't have a very high rate of drug abuse. They sould probably legalize the drug so that the profits don't go to the Taliban. It wouldn't hurt them at all. In fact, it could be a significant revenue stream that they could use to rebuild their country and fight the war on terror.

We should just buy every scrap of opium they produce at market rates and refine it into morphine which could then be sold, once again at market prices, on the open market.

But leave it to FedGov idiots to completely overlook the free market solution to their made up problem.
