From Roggio..

CBS News explains the two targets were hit while on the run. "Once they started moving, the al Qaeda operatives became easier to track, and the U.S. military started preparing for an air strike, using unmanned aerial drones to keep them under surveillance and moving the aircraft carrier Eisenhower out of the Persian Gulf toward Somalia. But when the order was given, the mission was assigned to the AC-130 gunship operated by the U.S. Special Operations command."

While not explicitly stated, the report indicates the likelihood is high that there are indeed U.S. Special Forces on the ground. An American intelligence source informs us U.S. Special Forces and CIA paramilitary teams are directly embedded with Ethiopian forces in Somalia.

In Copnsideration:

V-22 Escort

As of 1997 the V-22 escort aircraft was expected to serve in the air-to-air combat
mode while escorting the V-22s to shore and back to ship-board base.
Additionally, the escort is required to engage in air-to-ground warfare in the vicinity of the landing zone
where the V-22 is off-loading troops and/or cargo.

The basic mission requirements and constraints dictate that the vehicle must:

Morris focuses on politics - he's worried (as we all should be), that if the "surge" doesn't work, Hillary will win in 2008.

KING DAVID IN IRAQ
Written by Ralph Peters
Friday, 05 January 2007

It's official: Dave Petraeus, one of the U.S. Army's most impressive leaders, is headed back to Baghdad to take charge. The assignment means a fourth star and the chance to save a desperate situation - or preside over a grim strategic failure.

With back-to-back tours of duty in Iraq behind him and the most positive image among Iraqis of any U.S. leader, military or civilian, Petraeus is a natural choice. His intelligence, drive, devotion to service and negotiating skill make the lean, young-looking general seem perfect.

When he led the 101st Airborne Division in northern Iraq in 2003, he proved such a superb diplomat that the Kurds called him "Malik Daoud" - King David - as a mark of respect. He listened patiently, spent money wisely, used force intelligently and truly did win hearts and minds.

So what could possibly be doubtful about the choice of Gen. Petraeus to take over the leadership of our forces in Iraq?

It's because Congress has been out, the transition of power is keeping everyone busy, and the MSM is busy slobbering over the dems and their 100-hours. They thought President Bush and our military would have the holidays off, like they do, so they haven't been haranguing them as much as usual. IOW- the good guys have been left alone to do their jobs.
The Dems are stuck on Iraq. It's old news, Iraq will be able to take care of itself soon. There are other hot spots that need our attention. Iran is coming to a head and all the Dems whine about is Iraq. They are clueless. Bush has moved on to bigger fish.
