“Energy Independence”: A Formula For Attacking Energy Production
Capital Research Center ^ | January 2007 | James Dellinger

Posted on 01/08/2007 12:51:24 PM PST by vadum

Environmentalist groups want the new Congress to reject common sense policies encouraging more domestic energy production to wean America off foreign energy. Instead, green groups want to discourage energy production and consumption of the most readily available sources: coal, oil and natural gas, because they generate carbon dioxide (CO2), and nuclear, which produces no CO2. For green groups, “energy independence” seems to mean not depending on energy! Will the new Congress yield to their pressures?

Green groups say they want public policies that will make the U.S. less dependent on foreign energy sources, but they oppose efforts to produce energy using the natural resources in the U.S. that are most readily available. What’s wrong with this picture?

At every turn, radical environmental organizations block the creation of a domestic energy infrastructure for the large-scale energy-generating technologies (e.g. nuclear power, coal, oil and natural gas) that have been proven cost-effective, efficient, and reliable. Instead, they champion technologies that are not economically feasible without massive government subsidies (e.g. solar power, wind power). These groups pretend to support energy independence even as they undermine energy development at home.

Well-connected and well-funded, their power in Washington rests on a base of donors whose utopian vision of America’s future energy needs is radically at odds with the requirements of the American public.

Add to this the issue of climate change. For the environmental movement, “global warming” is yet another monkey wrench to throw at domestic energy development projects. If the U.S. is to reduce its imports of foreign oil and its dependence on the Mideast, Venezuela and other troubled parts of the world, then policymakers must support the expansion of U.S. coal and nuclear facilities and the development of America’s own oil and natural gas reserves.

BINGO! I was so angry when I read articles about Reid and Pelosi wanting energy independence, and when you read their "plan" it is to sabotage all energy production. Horrifying.

Congress to reject common sense policies encouraging more domestic energy production to wean America off foreign energy.

And how exactly do you encourage domestic energy production? You must make it worthwhile somehow?

This sentence:

Environmentalist groups want the new Congress to reject common sense policies encouraging more domestic energy production to wean America off foreign energy.

Should read:

Environmentalist groups want to wean America off energy.

Yup. A couple of hundred nuclear power plants would make us energy independent.

"And how exactly do you encourage domestic energy production? You must make it worthwhile somehow?"

You do it by NOT blocking the private investors investing into alternative energy investment, something that Bush was actually doing good at.

The real issue lacking from the "Alternative Energy" sector is that these groups/companies have not become big enough to grease the politicians on campaign contributions to accelerate the laws through lobbying in Washington. Now that you have some big name investors behind Alternative you'll see this begin to happen.

One of the ways is to open energy resources up for production, such as ANWR, the rest of NPRA, Bristol Bay, OCS and all of our coastline.

Should read:

"Environmentalist groups want to wean America off energy..... by undermining, constricting, and/or destroying the basis for a modern economic system....

The people complaining the loudest about "loss of resources" reducion of forests"loss of habitat ect are the same people who could not survive 2 days in the wild.
with those animals they adore.

The "mind of man" seems to grow more illogical with time.

Vacuum energy WORKS, have seen it in action. No CO2, no rad-waste, only effluvia is WASTE HEAT once you've used the electricity that pours out of the device. The libs TALK about clean energy, we don't see a DIME's worth of help from the B******s in developing this concept.

I saw a recent article in Government Computing News: GSA paves way for IT-based buildings that explains how the state of Missouri is achieving upwards to $30M in savings using some IT/Energy solution, on existing infrastructure, from some firm named Gridlogix. The state seems to have a pretty novel approach to achieve a large near term savings. While the Ice Caps melt, maybe its time to look for better technology oriented solutions. energylover@gmail.com
