I think we're giving up too easy. I think Obama could have been defeated by Ryan (7 of 9's ex), except we shot ourselves in the foot during the primary. Obama's seat was held by Peter Fitgerald prior to 2004, but the Illinois Republican party made it clear to Fitzgerald that he was on his own if he ran for re-election.

Given the wide open nature of things, I expect that the usual suspects will be gearing up soon. The party just needs to get behind them. Take Oberweiss for example: successful independent businessman. Outside of Chicago and especially Cook County, Illinois is NOT a blue state. If someone isn't afraid to run a campaign on conservative values, and stopping the coming onslaught of taxation by the Dim's, they've got a good chance IF we don't shoot ourselves in the foot again!
