There has been a mantra of "Back to Reagan" by most every conservative pundit since we lost the election. If anything is "shallow", it is that prescription for today's problems.

Why do you listen to media pundits, conservative or otherwise?

What do you read, besides the New York Times?

The specific mentions of Reagan in the post election cycle have most to do with how conservative principles were coupled with great communication skills; he could articulate his conservative rationale in a way that more average people understood, without personally insulting his opponents. Those attributes contine to stand out about him, more than any policy or action he took and it is those qualities, not a "Sandra Day O'Conner" appointment that conservatives look to.

But educated conservatives understand that and do not see that as some blind mantra, which it is not.

I voted for Nixon, Ford and then Reagan, (in both of his elections.)

You are very correct about the amnesia that many so called conservatives have about Reagan. He was moderate in several areas as well as well known for his willingness to compromise. Conservatives (true) sniveled about many things he did also, but the internet was not in full swing during that time, so the reality of the situation was lost in time.
