People can vote, or not, for who they please... but if someone -did- actually not vote to "send a message" to Republicans that they need to be more conservative, that had to be the most counter-productive act possible. Elected Republicans are -not- going to interpret a lost election as "we weren't far enough to the right", they're going to interpret it as "we weren't far enough to the left", and will become even more RINO than before. It amazes me how many people think otherwise.

The Democrats have it figured out.

While Conservatives argued amongst themselves about who is more conservative than the other, the Dems ignored their base, the kook left and appealed to the moderates and independents. (which went from 15% of the electorate to 33% in just two years) They also gathered their party as a whole and unified their effort, regardless of their pride, principals and ideology.

Conservatives on the other hand, were still bickering, sniveling and whining about single issue rhetoric. The most loyal and wise members of the party, saw the dangers in dividing the party over such trivial issues, when there were far more dangerous outcomes at stake should the Republicans lose the election.

We face those same dangers coming in '08 and it is vital that this party as a whole bury the hatchet and unify itself again. Either that or it will be the end of this Republic as we know it.
