Now we can argue what the "poverty line" ought to be, what the new "middle class" is owed, and what the new "wealthy" should owe in new taxes.
The beauty of this solution is that the terminology doesn't change, meaning that politicians can claim that they are true to their word, even if the populations refered to by the terminology changes.
In other words, you and I pay more because we're no longer "middle class," but are no "wealthy." Previously poor people are now "middle class."
