"We were always playing on the white man's court... by the white man's rules," he writes. "If the principal, or the coach, or a teacher... wanted to spit in your face, he could, because he had the power and you didn't.... The only thing you could choose was withdrawal into a smaller and smaller coil of rage.
"And the final irony: Should you refuse this defeat and lash out at your captors... they would have a name for that too. Paranoid. Militant."
Obama has not expressed any regrets for his candor. In a preface to the new edition, he says he would tell the same story now "even if certain passages have proven to be inconvenient politically."
In the book, Obama acknowledges he used cocaine as a high school student but rejected heroin. "Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though," he says.
In an interview two years ago, Obama said he admitted using drugs because he thought it was important for "young people who are already in circumstances that are far more difficult than mine to know that you can make mistakes and still recover.

Al Gore's book didn't prove costly to him, and neither did Hillary's.

This guy's a black Bill Clinton. Rotten on the inside, well spoken on the outside. No wonder the liberal Rats love him.

A Hillary supporter gives us the low down on her competition. LOL an Obama hit piece with Obama helping out!

Obama isn't that old. He can't tell a Jim Crow era story. The line is total B.S.

There is nothing wrong with sincere redemption. Few of us haven't been sorry about some past behavior. I personally have never used any illegal drug, but I consider myself one who has made many mistakes in the past that I have since turned away from.
If Obama's repentence is sincere, then I am happy for him. People should judge him on the man he is today.

In an interview two years ago, Obama said he admitted using drugs because he thought it was important for "young people who are already in circumstances that are far more difficult than mine to know that you can make mistakes and still recover. And, also, to defuse future discoveries of his drug use, which would have proven to be even more politically costly than it currently is.

A black Bill Clinton?
But I thought Clinton was black.

I agree with you. This argument is lame and old. GW was no angel in his youth, and we forgave him. It won't stop anyone who would vote for Obama to vote for him...it will just serve to make our side look more hypocritical than it is.

People should judge him on the man he is today. Fair enough. In that case, I say he's a liberal, political lightweight with absolutely no credentials to be considered for the nation's highest elected office.
