Why not just chamber it for .308 Win?

With the new elastomer tips, tubular magazines no
longer place serious constraints on the ammo.

Ah. Because if it shoots std .308, some fool will
load it with FMJ .308 and blow the mag, the forestock,
their arm, their ears, etc.

Got a Model 88 in 308. Lever action, box magazine.

Want to change thpe of round? Swap out the magazine.

Shoots 6mm/65 gr with sabots.

Marlin see a market for this?

They just reinvented the wheel. Nothing new here except the ammo will cost more. There are many .308 bolt guns that will do the job and as a rule a bolt gun is more accurate.

But it does look nice.

nope. marlin actually made a (semi) solution for that a long time ago. there's a pop off cap at the end of the tube. a chain fire will blow off the cap, you can pick it up, put it back together and go back to shooting.
also, when hornady came up with the leverevolution they actually tested how hard it is to chainfire. with modern, hard rifle primers, you have to really try to set them off.

Besides, I want to know where this myth started about exploding tubular magazines. Has there ever been a documented case?

When I was a kid I hunted deer with a 336C in .35 Rem loaded with Browning factory 150 grain jacketed soft points. The only thing I ever saw explode was the deer’s vital organs.

Also, where is it written that a lever action must be loaded to the hilt. I have never taken more than two shots at a deer. That would be one in the chamber and one in the magazine.

Let’s debunk this myth!
