Israeli Military Leaks Iran Plans to the London Times -- UPDATE: The Reporter Who Cried Wolf?
Pajamas Media challenged the report from the Sunday (London) Times for January 7, 2007: Two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility [Natanz] using low-yield nuclear bunker-busters, according to several Israeli military sources.
The attack would be the first with nuclear weapons since 1945, when the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Israeli weapons would each have a force equivalent to one-fifteenth of the Hiroshima bomb.
Pajamas Media wants to know why Israeli military sources would leak this information now. The Times asked that question as well: Military analysts said the disclosure of the plans could be intended to put pressure on Tehran to halt enrichment, cajole America into action or soften up world opinion in advance of an Israeli attack.
Meanwhile, US and allied presence is already increasing in the Persian Gulf.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry denies the report: the Prime Ministers office has no comment.
