So, what's with the "home grown" designation? Is this meant to imply that they are NOT muslim islamists, but more like Timothy McVeigh (e.g. white, right-wing "extremists")?

If they are part of the world-wide islamist insurgency, they should be described as such. We're going to have to begin killing them all anyway, so we need to get on the same page.
