The San Francisco 49ers Thursday announced their strong opposition to legislation introduced in Sacramento by California State Senator Carole Migden.
The teams opposition was joined by California State Senator Elaine Alquist, who represents most of Silicon Valley. Her 13th Senate district covers the cities of San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Mountain View, and Gilroy. The 49ers are a Bay Area team and an important regional asset. I strongly oppose this legislation because it hurts our chances of keeping the team in the Bay Area.
The legislation, entitled SB 49, is designed to limit the teams ability to build a new stadium in the Bay Area outside of the city limits of San Francisco. If passed, the legislation would make it virtually impossible for the team to stay in the region.

Yes... It really seems like their name limits where they could go. The El Paso 49ers? The Columbus 49ers? Might as well be the Bangor 49ers, lol! Makes no sense at all to me.
You have to get association approval for the color of paint on your house, yet the Cowboys were able to build the blimp hangar, with the secretive help of Irving City Council.
Didn't stop the "Utah Jazz."
They had better watch it, it's pretty easy to lose a team, even if the fans support the team. I'm still waiting for the Browns to come back.
If SF loses the 49ers you can have the Browns if you want.(Actually, the name might be more appropriate for the culture of the city.)
"Yes... It really seems like their name limits where they could go. "
Like that would stop them. Ever hear of the Utah Jazz?
Don't you know Satchmo learned everything about music from listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir?
"If SF loses the 49ers you can have the Browns if you want."
Oh, is there a team in Cleveland? Certainly it's not a professional team.
Don't the Ravens play in Cleveland once a year?
"Don't you know Satchmo learned everything about music from listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir?"
Yeah, rumor has it all the best Jazz musicians are "Jack" Mormons.
"Don't the Ravens play in Cleveland once a year?"
Yeah, but it's only an exhibition against the NFL equivalent of the Washington Generals.
As a Lions fan I feel your pain.
But at least I can brag to all the Cowboys fans that I'm surrounded by here, after last week's game. :)
The state has no authority to do this, do they?
Nice
Or the Los Angeles Lakers
You sure can. And if you really want to see the Cowboys fall on their face, don't miss the Seattle game today. Oh, and I've been a Cowboys fan for forty years. I'm with 'em, win or tie.
heh, heh
(The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim....)
kinda like "Santa Ana...All American City"
For years I though Lakers was from "LA"-kers. I think that's why they figured the name would work there.
This cannot be legal. The liberals and their MSM allies never cease to amaze me.
OTOH, the Oilers became the Titans. :-)
