Social Security siphon
Washington Times ^ | Jan.5. 2007 | Editorial

On its way to bankruptcy, Social Security will get there a bit sooner if President Bush, Republican senators John McCain, Chuck Hagel and Sam Brownback......

The Bush administration has reached an agreement with Mexico that would permit illegal aliens.....to claim Social Security benefits for the work they performed while in the United States illegally, even if the illegal aliens committed felonies by using fraudulent Social Security documents to obtain their jobs.

It would automatically become law if Congress does not reject it. Opposing this deal should be an easy decision. But last year the Republican-led Senate narrowly rejected an amendment by Sen. John Ensign that would have prevented this travesty.

"There was a felony they were committing, and now they can't be prosecuted" under the terms of the Senate immigration bill, Mr. Ensign argued at the time. "That sounds like amnesty to me." On top of amnesty for the felony, the bill would also grant them Social Security benefits, as would the deal negotiated by the Bush administration with Mexico.

In addition to McCain, Hagel and Brownback, other still-serving Republicans who opposed the Ensign amendment, which lost by a 50-49 vote, included Sens. Lindsey Graham, Richard Lugar, Mel Martinez, Arlen Specter, Ted Stevens and George Voinovich.

First, the "assets" in the Orwellian-named Social Security trust funds surpassed the $2 trillion level in 2006. ......

if the president gets his way, former illegal aliens begin depleting the trust funds in about 10 years. Second, when Social Security trustees release their annual report this spring, they almost certainly will report that the present value of Social Security's unfunded liabilities now exceeds $5 trillion. It is simply incomprehensible that the president and so many other Republicans want to add to Social Security's $7 trillion fiscal milestone.

Some will say, "BUT, but, some illegals have paid Social Security that they haven't collected!"

Some, yes.

Then there is this! According to the US Treasury Dept. Illegal aliens are getting as much as 10 BILLION dollars in refunds (earned income credit) in 2004.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0701/04/gb.01.html

BECK: This is insanity. You know, I just saw a number -- and tell me if this number is right, if you even have it -- I just saw a number on, in 2004, what we paid illegal aliens in tax refunds, 2004. Do you know this number?

CAMAROTA: Yes, I believe -- the figure I`ve heard is about $10 billion. That`s based on estimates that the Treasury Department has done itself, $10 billion they paid back to illegal aliens.

BECK: That is insane. We`re paying them $10 billion, and we can`t arrest them, we can`t even find them, we don`t even know -- $10 billion? And now we`re giving them Social Security, one that we don`t need another country to sabotage for us. We`re doing it ourselves. The whole thing is going to collapse.

CAMAROTA: Yes, and what`s worse than that is, that the IRS issues them tax I.D. numbers so that they can then file their income tax with their false Social Security numbers so that we can give them their $10 billion back.

BECK: OK, all right. So the last thing here -- let me just role play here for a second. I`m an illegal alien. I have to now go to the government and prove to the government that I have a fake I.D., that I bought a fake Social Security card on the street in the black market, and then the government rewards me for that, right?

CAMAROTA: Yes, in effect, sure. Once you get legal status, then you apply for the credits that you earned while you were an illegal alien. And the way you do that is like you said: You show your false documents. You bring out your bogus tax returns, and so forth.

Treasury Department Report. The results of our study are also buttressed by an analysis of illegal alien tax returns done by the Inspector General's Office of the Department of Treasury in 2004.35 That study found that 55 percent of illegal aliens who filed income tax returns using tax identification numbers had no federal income tax liability. While higher than the 45 percent estimated in this study, it must be remembered that this figure was only for those who filed tax returns using a tax identification number. These are all individuals who expected refunds, otherwise they would not have gone to the trouble of getting tax identification numbers and filing a return. But like our estimates, the Inspector General's report indicates that roughly half of illegals have no tax liability, reflecting their very low incomes and large number of dependents. ________________

http://www.ustreas.gov/tigta/congress/congress_03102004.htm

The number of ITINs issued in the last few years has increased dramatically, climbing from 1.1 million in 2001 to 1.5 million in 2002--a one-year increase of about 36 percent. Normally, ITINs would be used to file a Form 1040NR—U.S. Nonresident Alien Income Tax Return. However, many ITINs are used to file Forms 1040, which creates challenges for tax administration. Our analysis of Forms 1040 filed in Tax Year 2001 with ITINs found that approximately 530,000 Forms 1040 were filed with ITINs as the primary number by aliens who resided in the U.S., but who were not authorized to work and, in general, to reside in the U.S.

* These returns reported adjusted gross income of $10.7 billion. After tax deductions and credits, these tax returns reported a total liability of $184 million. * Over half of the tax returns reported no tax liability, and $522 million in tax refunds were claimed on these returns.

So long as we allow our Government to forcefully take away our money and give it to illegals - they will.

I wonder what it will REALLY take to stop this travesty?

The US government needs to issue a special 2007 version of Orwell's "1984". In large type. With plenty of pictures and diagrams.

The travesty will not be stopped because the politicians don't want it stopped....they encourage it and pass new laws to enable it.

And now our national guardsmen are retreating from the border when attacked......insane.

Also from today's WashTimes:

"The SSA maintains an "earnings suspense file" that tracks the wages of people whose Social Security numbers and names can't be matched. Unauthorized work by non-citizens is the chief cause of items being included in the file, according to the SSA's inspector-general.
The file, which tracks wages and contains no actual money, now stands at $520 billion. A substantial portion represents wages that would potentially have to be reinstated to the new Social Security accounts of newly authorized immigrant guest workers if amnesty legislation or the totalization agreement go into effect -- for work they did while in the country illegally. That amount could measure a few billion dollars, tens of billions, maybe even hundreds of billions. We have no idea, and the totalization agreement gives us no guidance. Nor does it tell us where the money would come from or who would pay for it." http://www.washingtontimes.com/op-ed/20070104-112338-7188r.htm

It's up to the people to stop the politicians - but this doesn't happen - we keep voting in the same idiots who support such give-aways and social remodeling programs.
Nothing short of a voter revolt will change their behavior and since the American voter has been dumbed-down by an inadequate educational system and a media that pushes the liberal agenda we are doomed.

Anyone who expects this pack of trash on Capitol Hill to do what is best for Americans is insane. They are looking at Hispanic votes and dreaming of perks.

most illegal aliens, have fraudulently used other peoples, legal citizens social security numbers. What is being done about that? NOTHING...

The citizens are stuck having to clear that problem up by themselves, while the illegal aliens collect benefits, and the government agains screws it's own people, to avoid being racist against people ILLEGALLY HERE.

It would automatically become law if Congress does not reject it.

And that is exactly the mechanism they will use to ram the North American Community down our throats.

Rule of Law: trashed
US Sovereignty: trashed
Democratic process: trashed

What's it gonna take people?

Exactly my first opinion of this plan.

I talked with my older retired sister who is a long time California conservative contributor and supporter and she is beside herself with disgust.

I do not see any real benefit to the Republican party or conservative movement from this totally inane act.

If I break down this action into votes for Republicans it absolutely stinks to high heaven.

The Democrats must be jumping for joy as they know that the majority of Hispanics will vote for them and now the Senior Citizens will be forced into their corner.

This stupidity to the Nth degree.

I sure as hell do not like this in any way shape or form.

Unfortunatelty many of the open border republicans either stayed home or voted for open border democrats then of course try to blame the election results on the right wing republicans. I know quite a few in USENET that did this.

Petitions are our only hope.

Petitions and the kick-off ASAP of the 2008 Congressional Campaigns. During campaign seasons contraversal issues like this would be avoided.
