Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was executed last week. Were told he committed all kinds of crimes. In fact, most of the evidence was detailed on the FOX Cable News Network, which in the United States, constitutes clear and convincing evidence of truth.
Why have a real trial?
In fact, many people in the Arab World believe that while Saddam Hussein was guilty and deserved to be tried, the trial in Baghdad was a sham conducted by an occupation government in Iraq controlled by the United States.
Everyone knows by now that we didnt invade Iraq because of Weapons of Mass Destruction, of claims that Saddam Hussein was working with al-Qaeda because those claims are now all proven lies. Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with Sept. 11, 2001.
But we all also know that President Bush lied about the reasons to invade Iraq. So, why shouldnt many people believe that Bush had other motives for ordering the invasion of Iraq and even the murder of Saddam Hussein and the murder of his two sons, grandson and several other relatives who were bombed to death by American fighter jets on March 19, 2003, the act that launched the invasion?
Even uglier are the details of Saddam Husseins execution.
That must really be a very proud moment for Americans to know how well our system worked under our direction. Saddam Hussein remained in American custody through his alleged trial and up to the moment of his killing by hanging.
The prisoner was taunted and insulted by the guards as they walked him to his death.
The truth eventually always comes out despite the lies spread by bigots like Sean Hannity at FOX Cable News, Glenn Beck at CNN and bigoted columnists like Cal Thomas and their ilk.
And the truth is something that Americans should know, rather than pretend never happened. The truth is what makes a Democracy and dealing with the truth is what makes people really free.
Freedom is not something we read in a press release and then wrap our arms around it praising it as evidence of principle, when it is not truth but merely propaganda in an unjust war that has taken more than 3,000 innocent American lives overseas.
While the propaganda media continued to insist that Saddam Hussein died with fear in his face, we now know that he died with determination and strength. That any fear he showed is the same fear that any human might show when facing death, but his fear was exaggerated to portray propaganda and to taint the truth.
Saddam Hussein walked to the gallows and scoffed back at those who taunted him asking them if they had any dignity or if they were even men.
Wow. I admire that strength. I admire that ability to stand up to bigoted, hateful distorted principle and the ability to look back at a scam, kangaroo court system and raise your head high as you walked to certain death.
How many of us could do that?
Certainly not President Bush, who cowered in the face of duty during the Vietnam War, preferring to hide in a national guard unit rather than join his generation (as I and others our age did) in choosing to serve active duty, risking possible death ourselves.
Saddam Husseins death does nothing to change the truth that we pretend to not see. The truth is often ugly and even painful. The truth is something we find ourselves struggling to avoid, to cover-up and replace with more appealing things, called lies.
The truth is Saddam Hussein never received a fair trial at all. Rather than being an example of the Democracy that Americans were told could be hoisted high as an inspiration to lead others toward the noble experiment that continues to be America, Saddam Husseins murder is little more than another example of how justice is trampled by the mob mentality that is driving American foreign policies.
If the War in Iraq was a real war, one justified by the rule of law -- which it is not -- then Saddam Hussein technically was a prisoner of war and should not have been tried until after the war.
But not even Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney really believe that the war is a justified war. Theyve thumbed their noses at the Fourth Geneva Conventions, sullied the fundamentals of the American Constitution with their personal agendas, and even have successfully thwarted the ability of the American news media to be the instruments of truth and the guardians of justice, embedding most mainstream media in the Bush-Cheney bed of lies.
As long as the children of others are being told to go fight that dirty war in Iraq, we Americans are so patriotic. But imagine if they re-imposed a draft and it was your son or daughter who had to leave the comfort of this country to go fight an unjust, illegal, unprincipled war, all of the fears Ive outlined would suddenly have weight.
Some might still champion the fight in Iraq, claiming it is our duty.
But I imagine most Americans would find a good reason to take pause in the bonfires of the truths that continues to burn in this country since Sept. 11, 2001. And they might imagine that they are merely pawns in a re-enactment of William Goldings powerful drama Lord of the Flies.
If you really care about the future of this country, go back and read that book or rent the movie and watch as civilized people are easily brought to hysteria and led down a path of insanity.
And when you look in the mirror, maybe you might realize that Osama Bin Laden did more than topple the once proud icons of American power in New York on Sept. 11, 2001. His terrorists may have also succeeded in bringing our morality to its knees.
Somehow, we Americans who see the truth need to raise this country back to the level of principle, justice, morality and righteousness that served as a beacon for the rest of the darkened world.

"I would expect somebody of this guy's ilk to be teaching graduate-level social science courses at an Ivy-League university."
ROFL! Ward Churchill's got competition.
OMG - you WENT THERE!!! Too funny.
Ray Hanania has gone from a has been MSM reporter to a flaming muzzie mouth piece.
LOL, as if they ever were.
You know, my history teacher in high school was an a**hole, he detailed a bunch of "evidence" about Hitler, German war crimes and the Holocaust. Since I didn't like my teacher, I can disregard the so-called "facts" that he taught us.
Liberal logic in action.
I had another teacher in high school that I and all the rest of the kids loved. She told us that the sun rises in the west, the earth is flat and that there is no such thing as gravity. We all believed everything that she said, andtried bery hard not to accidentally float off the earth until we got into college.
Sticks and stones and industrial paper shredders make break my bones, but are as nothing compared to the horrible Mean Word. Woe is me!
These people are beyond dialogue, by their own choosing.
And before he married, he was connected to city treasurer Miriam Santos.
Holy crap! She's a real piece of work, that one! Reminds me of the definition of a "technical virgin".
If the US was running the show Saddam would be on death row for 20 years and then have his conviction overturned.
I guess Hanania doessn't realize that, as president, Bush puts his ass on the line every day, in part so Ray is safe to write this bullcrap.
Interestingly, Hanania's bio, if you can believe it , shows him serving in the Illinois Air National Guard; how John Fogerty of him!!
LOL
Well, I guess he'd know then.
