Humans have received their own unpurified olfactory mucosal tissues with nerve stem cells, and every one regained at least some function. Currently, researchers in China have used human amniotic stem cells to restore function in mice. And there are current NIH approved, government funded studies using bone marrow stem cells in children with brain trauma and in adults with stroke.

What's really amazing is the way Atala's research resulted in the growth of new cells in specific areas of the brain in the mice he experimented on. The amniotic stem cells were manipulated before transplantation to encourage their development along a certain line.

A great source for learning more about research is PubMed

Just as friendly advice, I trade for a living and having 75% of you net worth in one stock or even a sector is just insane.

Also, if it showed the promise you say, money would be flowing in from all angles and they wouldn't need gubmint money. There are trillions of dollars all over the world looking for a home. It's not in Geron because it doesn't work. If you don't diversify, you will loose your ass. They are losing money and have no PE yet. They trade about 1 million shares a day. The chart looks like a short at 9. The yearly chart shows they are headed south right now. They may get a bump from the Dems vote, but will get killed when Bush veto's it.

Like I said, they need the gubmint money to make a profit. No investors are showing up.

Just "Google" stems cells and it will take about 5 minutes to figure out adult cells work and embryonic cells kill with horrible deaths. Just last week the Canuks cured diabetes with pepper juice. This week they are using it for cancer.

Why are the Repubs against it and the Dems for it? It's political now. It has nothing to do with science and making you money. You will looooooose!!!! It doesn't work!

Morals and stock picking aside, don't put all your money in one place. Remember Enron? Global Crossing? SUNW? PetMart, Palm, 3Com, SIRI? The list is really endless.

I'm morally opposed to EMBRYONIC stem cell research, but I would invest if I thought I could make money to give to Republicans that would stop it. I don't smoke, but have made a tidy sum in MO. I just haven't seen ANY evidence that embryonic cells are better than adult cells. I have been FOR ethanol fuel for years, but I wouldn't invest in their companies yet. As a similar investment, they depend on government mandates to make money. If the corn lobby is going to hamstring the industry, it will never catch on. OTOH, if we allow sugar cane from other countries and other crops to compete with corn, we could make a big dent in our oil imports. The sugar lobby and the corn lobby and the oil lobby are in the same camp against America, ergo a bad investment in ethanol.

Lets just say Geron has a breakthrough. It runs from $6-$9 now. It may go to $20-$30 on the breakthrough. You will miss the first run up if you are only in, say 5% of your net worth. If you buy at $30 and the company is for real, it will be at $100 before you know it. Greed, however will kill you if you are wrong and you are done playing with any stocks.

I lost nearly 1/3rd of my money in 2000-2001, but I retired in 2001 at 50 because I had enough diversity to survive. Dreams of being rich will almost always skew your judgment. Nothing wrong with taking chances, but be reasonable.

It's time to call your Representative to ask him or her to vote "No" on HR 3. The House Directory is at http://clerk.house.gov/member_info/index.html

(And it wouldn't hurt to call the President's office to encourage him to get his veto pen out and warm it up in case he has to veto this bill. 202-456-1111.)
