Let the record show, there was a full moon last night. Perfect weather, in other words, for moonbats, and that’s who was out in force today on Beacon Hill.

Deval Patrick was sworn in as governor, and as he does every four years, Secretary of State Bill Galvin got to yell out, “God save the Commonwealth of Massachusetts!”

Some years that phrase resonates more than others. Today is one of those days.

If you listened to the entire 17 minutes or so, you don’t have to go to church Sunday. You’ve heard your sermon for the week. Every time he said, “Let’s reach for that!” (four times, if you were keeping score at home), I reached for my wallet.

There are going to be a lot of second collections over the next four years.

Perhaps you missed the inaugural address because you have to work, because you are a - to use a word missing in the speech - taxpayer.

Well, here’s the bottom line. You know that quarterly property tax bill that arrived in the mail a couple of days ago?

If you go over to your pile of unpaid bills and re-examine it, you’ll notice something. You still owe the exact same amount of money you did before.

Property tax relief? Didn’t Deval mention something about that during the campaign? Forget about property tax relief.

God save the Commonwealth of Massachusetts!

breaking news from Herald

The family of the elderly Leominster woman raped and sodomized by Benjamin LaGuer is demanding Gov. Deval Patrick make it his first order of business to apologize to them for trying to help LaGuer clear his name.

“The new administration is very insensitive to victims,” charged Bob Barry of Worcester, the now-deceased victim’s son-in-law. “We feel that (Patrick) doesn’t get it about real families and real crime.”

In an ill-timed turn of events for the freshly minted governor, LaGuer’s latest appeal to have his conviction for the brutal 1983 assault on the then 59-year-old woman jettisoned based on fingerprint evidence that neither the defense nor prosecutors knew about was heard this morning by the Supreme Judicial Court prior to Patrick’s inauguration.

Barry said of Patrick, “He probably wishes he never got involved with Benjamin LaGuer.”
