Hicks identified as longtime member of metro-area Crips.
People who know Brian Kenneth Hicks might not be hard to find. But those willing to talk about him could be more difficult to come by.
That's according to one of Denver's top non-police authorities on gang activity, the Rev. Leon Kelly, executive director of Denver's Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives.
"He's a Crip," said Kelly, who has been working to combat metro-area gang violence for more than 20 years. "I know him from past experiences. In 21 years, you run into a lot of people. Brian and his crew, I've known him over the years."
But Kelly won't say a lot about Hicks.
"There's a lot of people spooked right now, a lot of people spooked," Kelly said.
"To speak on what I've seen and what I know . . . I've got to be concerned about my safety. And my family's safety."
Hicks, who turned 28 three weeks ago, was sitting in the Denver County Jail on New Year's morning when Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was killed in a hail of gunfire.
Hicks has been in jail on $550,000 bail since shortly after his arrest Nov. 9 for allegedly possessing four kilos of cocaine for distribution. He also faces a charge of attempted murder in a June 2005 case.

A crip tried to steal my mountain bike off of my balcony back when I was single, living in an apartment. I caught him in the act. He had no fear. He put a rock through one of the windows and cursed me with a death curse. It was the closest I've ever gotten to being in a full on shoot out. Good thing he ran - good thing for both of us.
Interesting. I was in downtown Denver in August 2003 for a convention and had a rental car completely shot up while it was sitting in a parking lot diagonal Starbucks and next to the Hyatt. Numerous cars were obliterated in several lots during a gang war that occured on a Friday night while a volient rain storm raged. I can only assume the gangs there wait for bad weather to shoot the place up.
A person with Williams at the club was said to be dressed all in red, a color commonly associated with the Bloods gang.
Sources tell 9NEWS that while at the nightclub, that person was in an altercation with other club-goers dressed in all blue, a color commonly associated with the Crips gang.
Hours later, the limo was sprayed with bullets near 11th and Speer Blvd.
Police say the manner in which the bullets were sprayed were typical of an intentional act to hurt someone, as they were shot roughly at head level.
Why was Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams associating with known gang-bangers?Or was it the Denver Nuggets who were entertaining the gang-bangers?
"Jailed Tahoe owner"
A TAHOE owner. Well, he SHOULD be in jail!
Club Safari is at The Shelter, 10th Avenue and Broadway
Dec. 6: Clark-James, a key witness against Hicks in connection with the June 2005 shooting, is shot and killed five days before Hicks is scheduled for trial.
Dec. 11: Hicks' trial in the 2005 case is postponed. He remains in jail on more than $1 million bail.
IMHO we would be better off to round up all known gang members and execute them on the spot. That would really take a bite out of crime.
The Denver Nugget player got himself shot several times in the legs ? several months ago.
I believe that he use to frequent this club, too. ( not sure )
Way to set an example for your flock, o courageous man of God.
Glorify the thug life.......
One note I haven't seen anywhere yet, is that this was a very upscale club, so anyone there had lots of $$$ to spend and I wonder if the club owners are gang affiliated and tolerated the thugs?

Give us a donation site for the money for the bullets. I will donate.

I think if people found out the percentage of professional athletes that are associated with gangs, they would be shocked.
I say send them all to Gitmo with all the other terrorists.
Easy for you to say.
