Ten suspected Taliban insurgents, including their local commander, were killed in a battle with Afghan and NATO forces in southern Afghanistan, an Interior Ministry official said on Wednesday.
The fighting took place on Monday when Afghan police supported by NATO air forces attacked the militants' hideout in Gramsir district of the volatile Helmand province, Dad Mohammad Rasa, an interior ministry spokesman, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
"During the hours-long cleaning-up operation, ten Taliban, including their district-level commander, were killed in Gramsir district," Rasa said.
He identified the commander as Mullah Maroof, who according to Rasa was conducting the militants' operations in the district.
Helmand province remained as one of the four most volatile provinces in the southern region of the country during 2006. Clashes with militants last year left over 4,000 dead, mostly insurgents.
On December 19, Mullah Akhtar Osmani, one of the four top commanders of the insurgents and a close aide of Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, was killed during a US-led coalition air operation in Helmand.
This is the "quagmire" that the MSM and the MoveOn Freepers we find ourselves in.
We can order up some Nancy Pelosi, Susan Estrich and Helen Thomas clones for them.
Now this is nice to hear.
Some guy was calling you to the carpet earlier today, rat. LOL
Yes I saw and I saw fellow FReepers chastizing him for it too.
I sure hope they weren't taunted before they died. Like Saddam. ACLU will get you.
I'm assuming they couldn't run fast enough, and didn't have any women and children to hide behind. And, that instead of virgins, they get eternal damnation.
I guess not everyone appreciates the balance you bring to the MSM's quagmire reporting.
Guess not,... oh well I sure won't lose any sleep over it, that's for sure.
The taunt of a a US soldier flinging their near dead corpses onto the back of a buzzard wagon works for me.
Very happy.
These toothless goat-f*****s are no match for US and NATO.
bump
They are too busy on their knees in front of Chavez right now.
Oh. Well UBL and company will just have to wait in line.
