Tele-evangelist sued over 'God can heal' claim
Ed Pilkington
Darlene Bishop, a tele-evangelist with a nationwide following, does not do things by half. When she and her husband Lawrence erected a statue of Jesus on the grounds of their mega church in Monroe, Ohio, they made it 62 feet high.
No less gargantuan are her claims about the power of prayer to overcome illness. Through a series of sermons, books and a television show, Sisters, broadcast on religious satellite channels throughout the US and abroad, she preaches that God has the power to heal even the most deadly diseases, including cancer.
But the contention is now the subject of a court action. Four of Mrs Bishop's relatives are suing her over her claim that God cured their father - her brother - of throat cancer. He died of the disease 18 months ago. In her book Your Life Follows Your Words, Mrs Bishop tells how she overcame her breast cancer through prayer, and how her brother was also cured. There is no mention of his death in the book, which she says is due to the fact that it was published at a time when he had been in remission for more than a year.
But the volume is still on sale through her website (price $15) under the blurb: "How God healed her of breast cancer and her brother healed from throat cancer".
Mrs Bishop's brother, Darrell "Wayne" Perry, was an accomplished songwriter whose work has been performed by big names in country music such as Tim McGraw, and by the Backstreet Boys. For a year before his death in May 2005, aged 55, he was cared for by his sister.

"There aer only two people in the bible who were said not to die, Enoch and Elijah.
But what of Moses?
I always thought that God sent a chariot to take him to heaven and that he didn't die but was lifted up to heaven.
Is my interpretation wrong? Or did I just watch the 'Ten Commandments' too many times? :)
Just an airplane? Ken Copeland has his own private airport in his back yard.
Me too, I'm a strong believer in God, but have seen enough hucksters and false prophets in my life to fill a stadium. As flies are drawn to honey, phonies are drawn to profitable possibilities of the Gospel. Now Pat Robertson is yet again telling us of his "prophecies." It's amazing this man who cannot tell God's Word from his own still has a following.
I'll be seeing that in about an hour. I pass it everyday.
Exactly. I think we expect Christians to all look alike, dress alike, act alike, never wear anything bright or wear makeup, etc. God uses the FOOLISH things of the world to confound the WISE. Let's be careful of judging who is foolish and who is wise...
WOW. Coordinates?
I had a similar realization when my mother died of cancer. We plan what we are going to do next summer, God knows what he will be doing at the end of eternity. It's hard to keep that in perspective when you see someone that you love dying slowly.
Yes, Jesus is God in the flesh. Read John chapter 1.
Moses did die, He wasn't allowed into the promised land because of striking the stone in the desert a second time to get water.
The stone was a 'type' of Christ who was struck (smitten) once adn who was to be prayed to afterwards to erceive His provision.
To strike the stone a second time would mean that Chrsit would have to die a second time to follow the type. Moses crime was in he disobeyed God in striking the stone on a latter occasion rather than just speaking to it and in that he damaged the value of the 'type' and what it was to portray.
Temember also the snake that was raised up on teh cross in the desert, that was also a 'type' of Christ who 'became sin of us so we could be healed (saved). The old testament is full of types fo Christ, One just has to look for them and recognize them when they appear.
The bible talks about 'line upon line and precept upon precept' until the final revelation of Gods plan for man is fully revealed. That play was finally finished being persented in the book of 'Revelations' which is more accurately entiled 'The Revelation of Jesus Christ'. where he is totally revealed as 'Lord of Lords and King of Kings'.
There is a passage in the bible at Duteronomy chapter 34 verses 5 and 6 where Moses died and was buried by God Himself. Another passage in Jude 9 talks about the Arkangel Michael contending with the Devil for Moses' body and not daring to bring a 'reviling acusation' against the devil who was one of Gods highest created beings who served as 'worship leader' in Heaven before he rebelled and was cast down.
That passage in Jude speaks volumes about why we shouldn't revile or ridicule Gods anointed regardless of how miserably they failed.
sorry bout the typos. I should have checked a little better, I was concentrating on the message rather than the letters. Dan
His spread is at Eagle Mountain Lake, just north-west of Fort Worth, TX.

That's his house on the lake shore just SW of his airport.
Bishop Darlene? Well, that's what you get when you appoint a woman to do a man's job!
It was Elijah who was lifted up in a chariot. Dan
Everyone has missed an important point. The headline of this article is (most likely deliberately) misleading. It would make one believe that the claim that God heals is the bone of contention in this lawsuit. The fact is that they are suing because she claimed that God healed a specific person.
That being said, if she really believed what she's preaching, she would have pointed out that God has healed every saved person, including her dead brother.
She and Benny should go bowling together.
Thanks for the info.
Like I said. I probably watched the 'Ten Commandments' one to many times instead of reading the Bible, like I should have.
And typos? Waaat are thoose? :)
I don't know who to believe based on this article, but it seems to me, she ought to give the job of handling the assets to his grown children. Seems kind of fishy to me.
Here's a link to another, related article - in which she claims that he never instructed her to distribute the money to his children (GIMME A BREAK. Unless he specifically said not to give his kids the money, that's obviously where the money should go).
