So far, history has shown that it's extremely difficult to win the Presidency as a US Senator, and it's been impossible as a US Representative. ************
No doubt. Who would you suggest rather than Hunter?

Right now, he's head and antlers above the other GOP milquetoasts that are considering a run.

In addition to the above, Duncan Hunter also gets an "A+" from the NRA. The more I'm reading, the more I'm liking.
Not to mention...
Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record. (Dec 2003)
Rated 7% by the ACLU, indicating an anti-civil rights voting record. (Dec 2002)
Rated 83% by the US COC, indicating a pro-business voting record. (Dec 2003)
Rated 17% by the NEA, indicating anti-public education votes. (Dec 2003)
Rated 11% by SANE, indicating a pro-military voting record. (Dec 2003)

92 lifetime ACU rating is "middle of the pack" ???????? Check the link and see for yourself. Ratings go from 83 for McCain to 99 for Tancredo. Goerge Allen is also at 92.
They do note that the ACU doesn't rate mayors and governors.

The answer is none, and in fact nobody has been elected whose last job was a US Rep, although many have tried.
To my mind, that's a pretty poor reason to disqualify a man that's otherwise eminently qualified.

I think the race is between Rudy, McCain and Romney...Go back to the TV... you may miss something.

No doubt. Who would you suggest rather than Hunter? Oh jeez, I don't know. I'm not even suggesting I wouldn't support Hunter.
I do know that if Jeb Bush's last name was Morgan or something other than Bush, he'd have the nomination already sewn up. He was a splendid governor of Florida.
But I don't think he'll run because of his last name.
I know I'll spend money to stop McCain. I'm not terribly thrilled with Romney or Guiliani, but either would get my vote in the general election over any Democrat. I do like Gingrich, but I'm not sure he's running.
So, I think you asked me a question I can't answer.

Ah, now that makes more sense. Giuliani would be in the 40-50 range (similar to the Arlen Specter/Olympia Snowe wing of the party). Romney might be a little higher. But only a little.

Thanks for the ping. The more I learn of Hunter, the more I like him. I hope he starts getting national coverage by the media.

The links don't work, and neither will Duncan's candidacy.
Hey Duncan, beat Arnold first.
To: bilhosty
Actually as any one can see in the As 40 years since 1968 the GOP always nominate their front runners.
And Lord knows, we should continue following that trend even if it leads to a catastrophic election defeat in 2008. How well did that strategy work out in 1996?

To my mind, that's a pretty poor reason to disqualify a man that's otherwise eminently qualified. I'm not trying to disqualify him. If you don't want a historical perspective, that's your decision. I happen to think history is important, but perhaps it's because that is what I studied in undergraduate school.

Who do you support? Would you vote for Hunter if he were the nominee?

I based my comment to you on the "leading Pack" of Rudy, McCain, and Romney.
I see no way any of those could come close to a 92 ACU lifetime rating.
( Tancredo isn't running and he wont)

Uh, me too. I understand the historical perspective. I'm just not a slave to it.

Sounds good so far! Hunter in 2008!
Please add me to your list. Thank you!
To: Antoninus
Hunter also came to Congress to make securing the California-Mexico border a top priority. How many illegals are in his district? Sorry, sounds more like a RINO.

You might want to read a little more about him before making a comment like that.... ;-)

McLame actually has a reasonably conservative voting record. His wackiness over the past 8 years can be almost completely tied to his personal animus against G.W. Bush, I think.
Of the three heads of Rudy McRomney, he's the only one I would even consider voting for in a general election--for a split second.
