Trivia question:
How many US Presidents have been elected directly from the US House of Representatives?

I guess I could be accused of being cynical, but I am wondering about his electability, being able to get the moderates in either party to vote for him.
That's a concern, no doubt about it. But considering he was first elected to a district with a 2-1 Democrat registration edge tells me something. I have only seen a few people say, "I absolutely wouldn't vote for him for reason x." This says to me that he'd be acceptable to a broad range of Republicans. His stands on trade and immigration might also be enticing to Reagan Democrats as well.

Thanks for posting how he votes on the issues. It makes a big difference on how the grassroots view him.
He looks conservative to me with what I read.
Plenty of time for him to gain the name recognition he will need before the primaries.

Thanks for continuing to post articles and maintain the Hunter ping list. These threads are a nice break from the 500 post Rudy/McCain/Romney threads.

As someone who lives in Duncan Hunter's district I can tell you he is very popular in this district usually winning his elections with over 65% of the vote.
I heartily endorse him.
He was great on immigration/border issues long before most of the country was aware of the problem.
I urge you to consider him.

This guy has it together. He has my vote as the other offerings such as Mclame and Julie Annie are out.

Thanks for continuing to post articles and maintain the Hunter ping list. These threads are a nice break from the 500 post Rudy/McCain/Romney threads.
The only reason those threads get so many posts is because 70% of the posters are nauseated at the idea of Rudy McRomney as the nominee.

Thank you. The answer is none, and in fact nobody has been elected whose last job was a US Rep, although many have tried.
It's extremely difficult, and the reason is that you're considered a local politician without any executive experience.
Very few Representatives have a national following or even name recognition. I guarantee you that a majority of the public couldn't tell you who Denny Hastert is (was).
The only President who ever managed to pull off a similar (and perhaps more remarkable) feat was Abraham Lincoln, who came out of the Illinois legislature to win the Presidency.
So far, history has shown that it's extremely difficult to win the Presidency as a US Senator, and it's been impossible as a US Representative.
There could always be a first, but if it were easy it would have been done before.

"Do you work for the media or just dutifully repeat everything they tell you?"
Actually yes. I work for the New York Times where I am a star reporter. Since I don't have to check my facts I have lots of spare time to promote their agenda on the Free Republic. I used to work for Dan Rather, but when they canned him I had to change(I wouldn't have sex with Katie Couric).
Actually as any one can see in the As 40 years since 1968 the GOP always nominate their front runners. That would be either McCain or Rudy. But there is some possibility that Romney could break through. that would be fitting since his father was the only GOP front runner in my life time to not be nominated.

Hunter is very wellspoken, clear and straightforward. He made that great presentation on how well Gitmo-Prisoners are being treated and destroyed (i think Wolf Blitzer) on the issue of war reporters and MSM propaganda.
