Family of would-be Herald Sq. bomber arrested

(New York-WABC, January 10, 2007) - Federal immigration officials plan to deport the family of a man convicted of plotting to bomb the Herald Square subway station.
Shahwar Matin Siraj was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday for a 2004 plot to blow up the subway station located right below Macy's flagship store.
A spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement told the New York Times that the parents and sister of Siraj were arrested and detained on other immigration violations.
The family had been reportedlyseeking asylum in the U.S. since 2003.

She and another clerk described the suspects as four women wearing Burqas -- Afghan clothing that covers the whole body -- one young male in black clothing, and an older, heavier male wearing a green coat, blue jeans and blue hat.
