SIOUX FALLS, S.D. Authorities say a Minnesota truck driver stopped east of Sioux Falls on Interstate 90 had a journal that made references to damaging a bridge in California and sinking an aircraft carrier. The F-B-I was called to investigate.
The journal also made a reference to shutting down the Minnesota Capitol. The 40-year-old driver was detained, but he was not arrested.

Police find more explosives in Vizcaya
Friday, January 05, 2007
A metal drum containing 70 kilos of explosives has been discovered next to a parked vehicle in Atxondo, near Durango in Vizcaya. The Ertaintza (the Basque police) believe that the terrorists who used a hideout in Amorebieta which was found on 23rd December might have used the vehicle. A member of the Basque Government believes that the explosives were destined for immediate use. Furthermore, the news agency La SER has found out that the mobile phone used to give the bomb warning in Madrid was activated on the 23rd December.
The information on the mobile telephone reinforces the theory that the car found in Atxondo was abandoned following the discovery of the terrorist's hidout in Amorebieta. It is believed that this also forced the ETA cell to change their plans and to detain a mountaineer from Oñate whose van, a Renault Traffic, was then used for the bomb in Barajas airport.

Highway Patrol, FBI Agents Investigate MN Trucker
01/05/2007
It's an investigation involving a trucker, terrorist threats and satanic symbols. And it started just east of Sioux Falls. On Saturday, a truck headed from Minnesota to California didn't stop at the port of entry at the Minnesota-South Dakota line. So, a South Dakota HIghway Patrol trooper pulled the semi over.
Inside the truck's cab, troopers say they found satanic symbols, books on satanic rituals, and personal journals with threatening references, like shutting down the Minnesota State Capital. That's when they called in the FBI.
The port of entry, about 15 miles east of Sioux Falls on Interstate 90, is where a routine traffic stop escalated into a federal investigation.
From my understanding, there appeared to be some uncooperative actions and some vagueness in responses to the trooper's questions as well, said Captain Kevin Joffer with the South Dakota Highway Patrol in Sioux Falls.
But Joffer says the trooper was even more concerned by what he found inside the cab of the truck. There were some booklets containing some satanic type info, he said. It just led the officer to believe based on some targets he mentioned such as the Minnesota State Capitol and an air craft carrier just things the trooper felt needed to be followed up on.
Since the trucking industry has been identified as a possible method for terrorists to attack the United States, the trooper called in two FBI agents from Sioux Falls.
We have soldiers who are protecting out homeland in various ways, but a lot of time our law enforcement people including our troopers are in our country as the first line of defense against people transporting illegal things or engaged in illegal activity, Joffer said.
That's why Joffer says it's important that every threat be taken seriously. It's our job to protect the public and follow up on things that need to be looked at further. The driver was held for questioning but was never arrested, he said.
The 40-year-old driver was cited for not keeping his log book. We called the Minnesota company he works for, and as of now, he still has a job.
