Ethics: Jimmy Carter says he's just being fair-minded by continuously condemning Israel. Meanwhile, his Carter Center draws ever more money from anti-Israel sources. Follow the money.
The ex-president's irritating opinions on Mideast matters are one thing. But the funding of his Atlanta think tank by big-money, state-linked Arab sources is quite another and points to a conflict of interest.
According to the Carter Center Web site's 2004-05 annual report the most recent available the center has received "in excess of $1 million" from characters like Prince Al-Walid bin Talal.
Bin Talal, you might recall, is the Saudi prince who insultingly offered $20 million to New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in the smoldering ruins of the World Trade Center. The cash was held out not because the prince cared about terrorism but to rub in that the attack was really a byproduct of the Palestine conflict.
The streetwise Giuliani, who once threw Yasser Arafat out of a New York theater, wasn't fooled by bin Talal's power play and told him to keep his dirty money to himself. Giuliani smelled the quid pro quo and wasn't a man who could be bought.
Carter looks a little different. His new book, "Palestine: Peace, Not Apartheid" lays all the blame on Israel for the Palestinian conflict in an interpretation worthy of a Cairo coffee shop. It is so extreme and so seemingly out of character that a top staffer at the Carter Center resigned in disgust.

Sadly, the Carter Center also probably draws lots of Jewish money as well. I've never really understood the vast majority of the Jewish people in this country who tend to side with anti-Israeli candidates and take positions taht are just the opposite of what one might think.
"...the vast majority of the Jewish people in this country who tend to side with anti-Israeli candidates..."
For the same reason they side with the anti-American forces.
Make sense. Even Cynthia McKinney begged the prince for the money... claiming that blacks are treated so poorly in American and they deserve some help.
Carter knows how to follow the money, too. I bet, after writing this book, he'll write a follow up. The man has done nothing but write book after book since leaving office. And having stirred up a controversy, he will continue.
bttt
Carter is an embarassment to "Christian" Americans. To the best of my knowledge he has never been repudiated by his church for the foul crap he says about this nation. A self-loving fool who has done more harm to this country than any ex-president I can think of off-hand.
Somebody needs to bust that grinning gargoyle right in the chiclets!
Very true.
Check out the funding donors on the carter center web site, there aren't that many jewish donors, something like one or two.
What is the level at which they are listed?
Please don't--he'd use it as an excuse to campaign for another Nobel Prize.
Its the same mentality that tried to make a deal with the Nazis in 1938 Germany. Fools.
Carter doesn't even have the decency to try and hide his anti-Semitism anymore.
In the book The Real Jimmy Carter, there's a comment from a Time magazine article that says Carter skirts what we used to call treason in this country.
The top level.
It would be interesting to see the mid and lower level donation list.
PJ O'Rourke described Cahtuh's grin as the look of "a raccoon picking fish guts out of a wire brush with his teeth."
I plan to visit his grave. I hope it's on a hill.
Cahtah is nothing more than a widdle wefty limp. Now that President Ford has passed, it seems like the next in line is none other than the Pali lover Jammah. I'd settle for him or BJ since BJ is looking pretty sickish lately. GHWB seems healthy and of course GWB is also healthy. Like the wefties say "it's time for a Dim." I agree, bet on Jammah on your Dead Poll for this year! Let him go swimming in the lake of fire.
