| WASHINGTON, Jan. 2, 2007 -- Thirty years before fighting political fires in the wake of Watergate, President Gerald R. Ford battled blazes in World War II.
U.S. Naval Historical Society documents and a newly released book, Halseys Typhoon, by Bob Drury and Tom Clavin, capture the story of a young Navy Lt. Ford who saved lives by helping to put out a fire on the USS Monterey. |

Cool! This certainly beats the record of someone else I could name!!
Pretty amazing!!!
We see that Ford was a war hero. He was also voted MVP as quarterback on the national championship Michigan football team. His academic performance at Michigan led to a scholarship at Yale to earn his law degree.
Yet most everyone remembers him as a bumbling fool, who couldn't even walk in a straight line without stumbling. It's because the media portrayed him as a bumbling fool. Its scary to see how much the media of the 60's through 90's led (misled) public opinion.
Liberals are the schoolyard bullies when they don't get their way.
He was one heroic American. Like so many others......he stood up to be counted when his country needed him. He was a stellar student-athlete; was offered a position on the Green Bay Packers, for pete's sake....
We all know the path he chose. America is better off for it. God bless him and his family.
