Why Illegal Immigration Is About to Get Worse

by Mac Johnson Posted Jan 02, 2007

A voter trying to affect the course of government is a little like a pilot trying to affect the course of hand-to-hand combat with a 500-pound bomb. Just as there is simply no place in the battle that the pilot can strike without inflicting casualties on his own side, there is no candidate in a two-party election that any given voter can support without voting against some of his own beliefs at the same time.

For example, when given a choice between, on the one hand, a pro-abortion, protectionist, pro-civil liberties, race-baiting surrender monkey in favor of subsidized gay marriage for illegal alien pedophiles, and on the other hand, an anti-abortion, pro-free trade, tough-on-terror, donor-kissing corporate sycophant in favor of outsourcing all children to more competitive child rearing farms in Pakodeshindia … for whom does the gun-owning Irish Catholic union member from New York vote to advance his overall values in Washington? Or for that matter, for whom does anyone vote?

Like the pilot in our strained comparison, the voter can abort all action (stay home) or look down at the battlefield, pick out an area that seems more filled with the enemy than the friendlies and yell “bombs away!” (Vote for the lesser of two weasels.)

Whichever of the two weasels is judged to be least, he will immediately arrive in Washington with his weasels-in-arms and, because he won by 3 percentage points, claim a mandate for some issue that was ranked fifth in importance in exit polls.

This is what is happening right now on the issue of illegal immigration. When asked directly about the issue by pollsters, voters of all major ideologies consistently oppose its continued tolerance by government. Republicans, Independents and Democrats alike want it stopped. This result is much too clear and direct for many politicians and pundits to find useful, so instead an assemblage as diverse as George W. Bush, Robert Novak, Teddy Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi are claiming that voters in the last election demanded amnesty for illegal aliens.

A good deal of propaganda has been spun over the last two months in support of that notion, as Democrats prepare to move forward on legalizing 15 million to 30 million future clients of the welfare state; while the Bush wing of the GOP, by contrast, prepares to move forward on legalizing 15 million to 30 million current workers of the corporate state.

Any honest analysis (link to http://www.americanthinker.com/2006/11/killing_the_gop_brand.html ) of the election, however, shows that voters did not turn out Republicans in sympathy with La Raza and Tyson Foods. The election was a widespread expression of dissatisfaction with the GOP, triggered by Iraq, corruption, and spending. To the extent that illegal alien coddling was an issue, it was a secondary issue that hurt the GOP with a significant part of its natural base.

Such obvious political realities cannot be allowed to interfere, however, with the massing movement in Washington to “do something” on the issue of illegal immigration. Unfortunately, the “something” being contemplated—amnesty by any other name—will just make the problem worse. This means that the social problems and voter dissatisfaction surrounding the issue will continue to grow.

With the Democrats now in charge of Congress, the only actions being discussed are defunding border security measures (such as the 700 miles of fencing that were approved by the GOP-led Congress last year) and giving immigration criminals already in the country a “path to citizenship.” The theory behind this move is that if Congress just declares illegal aliens to be legal, people will think they have solved the problem.

In other words, the bipartisan open-borders lobby would have voters believe that the root cause of crime is law. After all, if there were no laws or limits, no one could violate them. Crime would be zero. So they propose to solve the illegal alien problem by simply attacking the fact that they are illegal. In this way, terrible anarchy will be replaced by a healthy lawlessness on the border. This will reduce future illegal crossings about as well as giving car thieves a “path to ownership” would reduce future car theft.

The historical proof of this is overwhelming. Giving immigration criminals a “path to citizenship” (a six syllable amnesty) will repeat the mistake that is the root cause of today’s problem—the 1986 amnesty (path to citizenship).

In 1986, a bipartisan consensus in Congress issued an amnesty (they were at least honest in naming it) for the 3 million illegal aliens then in America. Doing so was supposed to solve the problem by allowing immigration enforcement officials to forget about the huge backlog of international trespassers requiring deportation under the law, and focus instead on preventing new trespassers from entering. We would cut our losses and move on. Increased border security never came though and the illegal immigration floodgates then opened in earnest—ironically, because of the amnesty that was billed as a solution to the problem.

The problem worsened because the amnesty sent out a clear message to the world’s poor: just get to America and they will let you stay. You can sneak in, lie your way in, bribe your way in, force your way in, or beg your way in and its as good as getting a green card up front. America will let you stay, forgive your illegal entry, identity theft, tax evasion, Medicaid costs, lack of driver’s licenses and your off-the-books cash only jobs—and then make you a citizen and thank you for caring enough to lie and cheat your way into a better life here in the land of the free lunch.

The world heard the message of amnesty clearly; and it was only after we rang this dinner bell that illegal immigration grew into the chronic crisis it is today. A second amnesty will simply rebroadcast this same message and establish that our lunacy knows no limits.

Such a mistake will be a shame, since border crossings are down significantly for 2006—just as a result of the feeble efforts enacted during the last election year. After years of increases, apprehensions (an estimate of total crossings) are down 8.4% for the entire year, with the biggest decrease (41%) occurring for “other-than-Mexican” aliens (OTMs). These decreases began in mid-year immediately after the President, in an effort to assuage his critics, announced to the world that the policy of “catch and release” for OTMs would be ended and that 6,000 National Guardsmen would be sent to the border. The deployment of the Guardsmen received massive attention from the media in Central America.

The fact that these meager and half-hearted efforts—theater, really—were able to cause such a substantial decrease in illegal crossings shows that our real problem was not one of resources or “boots on the ground,” but one of telegraphing our intention to do nothing. The problem is solely one of public relations. The world’s underclass has perceived—correctly—that the U.S. government, at the behest of corrupt businesses and ethnic grievance pimps, wants them to come here illegally and will reward their efforts with citizenship. Who wouldn’t come? Statistics indicate that one-seventh of Mexico’s working-age population has already arrived.

Yell “free money” in a crowd and you can have every expectation of many happy takers. The same money can, however, be walked safely through the same crowd by an old man armed with nothing more than a security guard’s uniform—because the uniform communicates an intention to enforce law. That’s all the difference. Most of law enforcement is simply creating the belief that there will be enforcement.

The second coming of amnesty in the next Congress will, once again, do just the opposite. It will confirm in people’s minds that in the end, there will be no immigration law enforcement. Only a dedicated and well-publicized effort to restore law enforcement and punishment will correct the problem. And far from solving the problem, Congress and the President are about to make it worse.

How is it anti-business? Employers using an illegal work force don't have to pay minimum wage or any other benefits that are forced upon legal employing businesses. Once again the democrats get their cake and eat it too.

So you are for the minimum wage. I don't want to read you complain about President Bush signing a nancy pelosi passed minimum wage bill. That would make you a hypocrite.

WASHINGTON – While the military "quagmire" in Iraq was said to tip the scales of power in the U.S. midterm elections, most Americans have no idea more of their fellow citizens – men, women and children – were murdered this year by illegal aliens than the combined death toll of U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan since those military campaigns began.

totally agree!! We are trying to fight against amnesty by running radio ads on KMOC930 Poplar Bluff urging folks to sign the petition on lawopenforum.com so we can pressure congress with the promise that if they vote to remove our jobs via illegals we will vote to remove theirs!!

Find it yourself @ `MuncieStarPress'.
One of my resolutions is that I'm through with trying to reason with OBLs like yourself, Dane.
You've made up your minds and are impervious to facts or reason; I will, however, correct you when you misrepresent either.
Btw, Happy New Year.

What everyone sees in the usa is that the mexicans and the central americans are generally nice people except that they have their preditors. These preditors have come north in increasing numbers in recent years.

I am not for the minimum wage, I did use the word "forced". Can you answer my original question? How is it anti-business to require all businesses to play by the same rules, whether we agree with them or not?.

Silly Dane. You have only postulated that he received government handouts - Prove it or shut up.

You, however, insist Americans should give away their private property rights to people who shouldn't be here at all. Do you lock your home's doors when you go out or do you allow anybody to just walk in and take whatever they please?

If your home does have locks that would make you, Dane a hypocrite. Just for full disclosure Dane, how many illegals are you helping to break American laws by employing them in your US business?

Posting the facts open border lunatics will not post: another illegal killer walks.......

Charges delayed in fatal Henry County crash
Ernesto Reyes was released from the Henry County jail on Wednesday. By NICK WERNER

NEW CASTLE -- Henry County Prosecutor Kit Crane has delayed filing any formal criminal charges against a farmhand arrested in connection with a crash that killed two people.

Because Crane did not file charges within 72 hours of the Friday arrest -- a statutory deadline required to hold suspects in custody -- Ernesto Reyes, 20, Hagerstown, was released from Henry County Jail Wednesday afternoon.

Reyes -- who authorities have said is an illegal immigrant -- was the operator of a farm tractor and grain wagon involved in a crash Dec. 20 on Ind. 38 west of the Wayne-Henry county line that killed Gregory Duvall, 39, and Vickie Guffey, 60, both of New Castle, police said.

Authorities said the grain wagon lacked required operational tail lights and Duvall likely did not see the wagon in the dark before he crashed into it. Duvall and Guffey, who was the driver's mother-in-law, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Indiana State Police arrested Reyes two days later on a preliminary charge of reckless homicide, a class C felony carrying a standard four-year prison term. He had been held under a $500,000 bond.

State police issued a brief press release Wednesday updating media on the Reyes case.

The release stated that the investigation is continuing with the Henry County prosecutor's Office and is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.

Further questions were directed toward the prosecutor's office.

Crane was out of the office Wednesday afternoon and could not be reached by phone.

Someone in his office told The Star Press that he would answer questions about the case today.

Contact news reporter Nick Werner at (765) 213-5832.

I work for a living. Adios, amigo.

And European immigrants never had such predators in their subsequent generations in America, is what you are saying, IMO.

Tell that to the families of victims of jeffrey dahmer or ted bundy.

The press secretary for the California Republican Party is the son of illegal aliens who came the USA 35 years ago. In this article he chronicles how in recent years there has been a massive change in the number and kind of illegals coming north. Including a crimnal element that is causing a deterioration in the quality of life of Americans. Consider this article Illegal aliens murder 12 Americans daily Death toll in 2006 far overshadows total U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq, Afghanistan

People have been referring to the Captains Quarters as a rebuke to the assertions of the article. The Captain's Quarters makes the assertion that -- for the numbers to be true -- it would have to be the case that a small number of people were committing a lot of crimes. That is to say far outside the statistical norm for the USA. The problem is that he didn't actually check the federal stats. As it happens it is the case that illegals tend to be very repeat offenders.

Below are some government stats to back up the article's assertioms

From the FBI crime statistics * An estimated 16,692 persons were murdered nationwide in 2005, an increase of 3.4 percent from the 2004 figure. * Murder comprised 1.2 percent of the overall estimated number of violent crimes in 2005. (Based on Table 1.) * There were an estimated 5.6 murders per 100,000 inhabitants.

Illegal Alien Crime Wave

On April 7, 2005, the US Justice Department issued a report on criminal aliens that were incarcerated in federal and state prisons and local jails. In the population study of 55,322 illegal aliens, researchers found that they were arrested at least a total of 459,614 times, averaging about 8 arrests per illegal alien. Nearly all had more than 1 arrest. Thirty-eight percent (about 21,000) had between 2 and 5 arrests, 32 percent (about 18,000) had between 6 and 10 arrests, and 26 percent (about 15,000) had 11 or more arrests. Most of the arrests occurred after 1990. They were arrested for a total of about 700,000 criminal offenses, averaging about 13 offenses per illegal alien. One arrest incident may include multiple offenses, a fact that explains why there are nearly one and half times more offenses than arrests. Almost all of these illegal aliens were arrested for more than 1 offense. Slightly more than half of the 55,322 illegal aliens had between 2 and 10 offenses.

CRIMINAL HISTORY

More than two-thirds of the defendants charged with an immigration offense were identified as having been previously arrested. Thirty-six percent had been arrested on at least 5 prior occasions; 22%, 2 to 4 times; and 12%,1 time. Sixty-one percent of those defendants had been convicted at least once; 18%, 5 or more times; 26%, 2 to 4 times; and 17%, 1 time. Of those charged, 49% had previously been convicted of a felony: 20% of a drug offense; 18%, a violent offense; and 11%, other felony offenses. Twelve percent had previously been convicted of a misdemeanor. Defendants charged with unlawful reentry had the most extensive criminal histories. Nine in ten had been previously arrested. Of those with a prior arrest, half had been arrested on at least 5 prior occasions. Fifty-six percent of those charged with a reentry offense had previously been convicted of a violent or drug-related felony. By contrast, under half of those charged with alien smuggling, a third of those charged with unlawful entry, and just over a quarter those charged with misuse of visas and other charges had previously been arrested. The criminal histories of these defendants were generally less extensive: more than 70% had been previously arrested fewer than 5 times. Use some common sense here, do you know of any medical researcher who is wholly private(i.e not receiving govt., taxpayer funds to do research).

Again I ask you to use common sense, look at the outrage over the way President Bush stopped govt. funding for embryonic stem cell research.

BTW, why didn't Mr. Johnson announce that he receive no taxpayer money for his medical research, after all he decalres himself a "good conservative".

Common sense implores me to believe that you employ illegal aliens. The fact that you repeatedly fail to deny that you knowingly employ illegals is proof that you do (Dane reasoning, doncha know).

But again, you eschewed common sense in your post #24 and required tumblindice to provide a link. He complied in Post #31 and as usual, your silence was deafening. So I repeat - provide the link for your wild assertion that Mr. Johnson received government money or retract the irresponsible statement.

BTW, How many illegals do you employ?

LOL! I have stated what seems many thousands of times that I do not employ illegals, in fact I am looking for employment currently myself, and I say that with my conscience clear, unlike you, with anybody who disagrees with you, you go into instant nancy pelosi mode and promote micromanaging of business, and you automatically point the finger and declare one an evil business owner.

Maybe you should look at the good small private business does, instead of being like nancy pelosi and try to choke small business to death, because you do not like the people who such "evil" people such as shelter builders and food growers employ.

LOL! Why don't you show me a link to a medical researcher, such as the writer of this article(Mr. Johnson), who can wholly show that he/she doesn't receive govt./taxpayer money.

That is a real research job, IMO.
