WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

I have never heard a more beautiful voice singing the Lord's Prayer as Denyce Grave's.

Apparently, Ford or the Ford family asked Brokaw to speak. It could be that Ford and Brokaw became true friends. Then again, given the power of the press, co-opting the press would be a smart move. It's their decision to make. In my opinion, Brokaw does not have the same luster or rank as Presidents or SOS Kissinger. But if they choose a newsman, or an actor, or even a stand up comic, that is their choice. It has been a good ceremony. Brokaw did no harm and may have helped. Throughout all speakers, I think there has been too much emphasis on Watergate. But enough of that!

I love the Book of Common Prayer, which is being followed here.

I agree - that was beautiful! Imagine hearing it in the cathedral! Amazing voice!

Your comment abount national security is being echoed in the solid south as well. Nothing else will matter if we are not secure and sophisticated voters know that in their hearts.

Why Gerald Ford would care about that after death is something you could perhaps explain; I can't. :)

I agree. Her's was the most beautiful singing of the Lord's Prayer I have EVER heard.

Nacy Hymn. "Eternal Father strong to save..."
To: Clint N. Suhks
I absolutely agree that it had no place.

What's the other version? "Flared"?
Pathetic. Change the name and everyone thinks it's new!
Just like we can't use "handicapped" any more; it has to be "disabled". People try to change a subject by just changing the word. Dumb.

Thank you, PhiKapMom. I got sniped at for commenting similarly on Brokaw. But inappropriate behavior needs to be truthfully noted.
It is otherwise a beautiful and fitting service.

Oh, Lord - the Navy hymn. That always makes me lose it, and I'm from a family that has been Army for well over 200 years.
