WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.

As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

If Ford were a Democrat, this would be getting 24/7 coverage on the Drive-by networks.

If Ford were a Democrat, today's coverage would be titled:

"The Ford Funeral: And You Thought The Wellstone Funeral Was Raucous!"

When GOP statesmen are buried, Republicans do do with grace and honor. When a Dem dies, it's used as a platform to slam everything America holds sacred.

OK.....my rant is over.

Oboy.... one of my favorite hymns now, "The King of Love my Shepherd Is". It's on the list for my funeral.

You are believing Bob Woodward? I suggest you go read the "Chicken salad " link.

Please take your anger away from this thread.

Their precision always amazes me....especially when they climb stairs and keeping the casket level at all times.

I agree. Our military never ceases to amaze me... God bless them each and every one.

The visual as they moved with the shadows and light hitting the stairs was quite striking.

(I love the old time hymns as well. The music has been amazing.)

Please stop trying to start an argument and have some respect for the feelings of those participating on this thread and for the moment.

And we'd walk up and "pop" beads that someone else was wearing...except "sometimes" they weren't really "pop" beads..ooops.

Save this for another day won't you? Have some respect. It's bad manners to speak ill of the dead, no matter who they are. Just go somewhere else and allow us to bury our President. You sound like Cindy Sheehan.

I am the Resurrection and the Life, saith the Lord;
He that believeth in me, though he were dead,
yet shall he live;
and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.

As for me, I know that my Redeemer liveth,
and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth;
and though this body be destroyed, yet shall I see God;
whom I shall see for myself and mine eyes shall behold,
and not as a stranger.

For none of us liveth to himself,
and no man dieth to himself.
For if we live, we live unto the Lord;
and if we die, we die unto the Lord.
Whether we live, therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord;
even so saith the Spirit, for they rest from their labors.

I'm sure Hill and Bella's are real, too. Although, Condi looks classier in hers which are probably good faux. OK, I'll stop being catty now.

Take it to another thread.

The bottom line is Ford was not privy to security matters in the last 30 years that other Presidents like President Bush currently Commander in Chief have had. And as an American he is entitled to his own opinion regardless.

May I respectfully suggest that your comment on #339 is not appropriate for this thread? This thread is concerning the service of President Ford, and to pay our respects. The same goes for comments about other former Presidents. It's not about them - it's about President Ford and his family.

Please remember that at the time Ford gave this interview he was 93 ... I know a dear 96-year-old lady who does not always have the same level-headed perspective she did when she was younger. Minds grow less sharp as the body ages, and I think it's prudent to keep this in mind in regards to President Ford's comments on the Iraq war. Let's not judge a man's contribution to this country throughout his 93 years by one interview he gave at age 93.

If I recall correctly, wasn't one of the Ford sons an actor in the 70's? I thought he was a soap opera heart throb, but I don't remember which one. Jack perhaps?

I would like to look at some of the old pictures from the 70's and compare them to the expanded families they all have now.

THANK you. It would be nice if some of the class being shown at the service would rub off.
