WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.

As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Anyone surprised at bubba gazing at the ceiling with his mouth hanging open.

I cannot watch these people. Just what business is it of chelsea to be claiming a place of honor in that Cathedral?

I don't seem to see any CSPAN coverage that I can get on my computer until 10.30, when the funeral officially begins. Right now I'm stuck with a CNN Headline stream at my office, so I'm just getting glimpses from time to time. I shoulda worked from home today. :-\

Yes, I was talking to a friend who was here earlier about the Ford son's and daughters. They really have class and dignity.

Unfortunately I missed all of Saturday night's funeral services, as I was hosting a dinner party and my guests did not share the enthusiasm I have for such historic events.

I will bet Carter was pre-viewing his anti-Bush eulogy in Michigan and Clinton knew it would be poison for the democrats.

Very interesting observation, and of course I am just speculating.

Brit identifies a guest as Chief Justice Brenner (sic) and the co host says.....he's dead.

That began a string of useless chatter about Constitution Avenue and other inane comments.

They've had days to prepare for this and it's hard to tell Brit from Katie's jabbering.

I do too. He's a wonderful man and leader who went to so many funerals after 9/11 and he campaings tirelessly for the GOP.
