WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Lynda was married in the White House; Luci converted to Catholicism to marry her first husband, and that was in the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, in North East Washington.
In a tribute last year, Ford praised the independent Stevens and said he was "prepared to allow history's judgment of my term in office" to rest exclusively on the nomination.

I remembered reading the lyrics in William Manchester's "Death of a President", and all I could remember was "evergreen pine". That was more than sufficient to google it.

I saw an interesting trivia point in the Post this morning; that since the Civil War, only three Presidents have outlived their wives. I can come up with Wilson and Nixon without Googling.... now, who else?

And something is telling me it's Herbert Hoover, since he lived to be about Ford's age. I'm going to check it.

Michael Ford has been shaking hands with the public streaming by the casket at the Ford Museum.
I am getting sick and tired of seeing the very adult Chelsea everywhere. However, Doro Bush did accompany the Bushes today and she got to sit next to Slick,,,ha ha....so Barbara Bush got a break today.
I suspect we are going to see a whole lot of Chels in the next two years. And she will probably have a flashy WH wedding if the Beast gets in...yuck...
