WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

I shouldn't say it, but I'm tired from 100 hours a week work for months on end. There is no way to save this country. The FIX is in.
Check out SPP when you get a chance, and chomp down on that stuff for a couple of hours!
America the "Super Power"--- the USA, what a total JOKE.
When I was in eighth grade, many moons ago, I went to a church connected Catholic school. The Dominican nun who taught us our regular school work also taught us music and we sang(in Latin) all of the funeral masses of the parish. I think that I see within what you posted part of a hymn that I knew as "To Paradise". That was the only one we sang in English and not Latin. We sang it as the recessional. It stuck with me because it had a sad and haunting quality.
Thank you so much for posting that photo!
Could have written this myself except for the fact I voted for Nixon, felt betrayed by him, and then voted for Carter because of the pardon. Wish I had paid more attention to President Ford. Didn't get interested in politics untill very late in Reagan's last term. As soon as I first saw the Clinton's on 60 Minutes I knew what they were.
I missed the thread this morning, just saw this post.. I voted for Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Reagan, Bush, Perot, Dole, Bush, Bush.....
Well, you were wiser than I and probably not raised as a democrat.
Was that photo taken after Katrina? I've not seen it before and I like it so much, I might post it on the Dose one day.
It was taken this year at the anniversary commemoration of Katrina.
Kinda thought about voting for Perot untill he accused President Bush of trying to ruin his daughters wedding. Very glad now I didn't.
Thank you, it' a wonderful photo and congratulations! You're now a pro at posting pics.
Aw, don't worry. It was a great pun!
I loved the "it wouldn't be prudent" clip... It's on MSNBC but I can't link it.
Another thing that bothers me about the Perot run is finding out all these years later he and Clinton were good buddies... and Perot hated #41... one of those things that makes you go hmmmmmmm....
I went to a fund-raising dinner, in Anaheim, for him in the 70's when he was running for office. He was a very charismatic man.
What do you mean? I traced the post of mine you replied to and can't figure out your post to me...lol.
Unforgettable man!
I know my sister is a Republican, but I couldn't honestly tell you how my mother or my uncles vote. I know my Uncle, that lives in Austin, knows both the President and his father and was Dep. Director of the CIA when Reagan was President and also ran the NSA, but I still don't know, for certain, how he votes and would never dare ask, if I was to guess I'd say probably democrat, but could be wrong... he never reveals those things.
I loved him... I still remember when he won the second election by a huge landslide, I was cooking liver and onions for dinner and George and I were cheering as the returns started coming in and he not only won, but won huge!
We must exploit this venue to get both the word out about clinton and the cowardly clinton out from hiding.
We must force missus clinton to come out from behind her fortress of paid operatives, Secret Service (paid for by us!), servile hosts and media types, scripted appearances, prescreened audiences, etc., etc.
We must insinuate ourselves into all her venues... and pounce. She is not capable of handling THE BAGGAGE. Remember Katherine Prudhomme.
